She didn't disappoint. A Meadow in Saanich is a charming short story that transports us to an exquisite rural location outside of Victoria, B. Using broad colorful strokes, she paints the image of a countryside in such vivid detail that we come away with shoes damp with foggy dew as we crunch across gravel and sprigs of moist grass in search of the spirit of this place. After all, we are told this is not quite a ghost story. But it is a delightful adventure that is satisfying on many levels: Suspense, mystery, an engaging and intelligent main character in Kaiya, and an unexpected conclusion.

The mingling of nostalgia with a mystical farm property contributed nicely to the haunting vibe. This one gives us a look at the author in the zone, and the poetry of her effort leaves me wanting more. My only criticism? Dang thing was too short! Well done, deserving of five stars. A beautifully crafted story. This beautifully written short story transports the reader to a place where history and the present cling and ghosts are said to linger in the mist. In a beautiful west Canadian setting, Albermarle teases the reader's imagination into suspending doubt and disbelief aas they follow Kaiya on a mysterious adventure.

We hurled the weapons in unison, but I must have been a fraction of a second faster: the abomination exploded and fell to the floor in a myriad shards like small knives.

Like physical beauty, a cold sore, or an opinion. Admitting you feel rage or terrible pain or regret or some old, rotten blame does not mean these feelings are part of who you are as a person. What these feelings mean is, you have to change your thinking to be free of them.

I'd describe it as assembly line fiction. A novel that is designed to be a crowd pleaser. It never strays from formulaic commercial boundaries. The story is well-plotted On Amazon. Jun 25, PM. Valerie Albemarle rated a book really liked it. Jun 10, AM.
