As usual, an apparently light music, but in reality strong enough to cross centuries and give joy and peace to all those who open their ears, or let their hands touch a keyboard The titles are both poetical and mysterious, oscillating between family and mythological moods. The 'Spinner' may evoke the sound of a loom; the 'Boulonoise' my prefered piece could be a lady from Boulogne-sur-mer, on the north french seashore Boulonnaise in modern French.

Peter Solomon appears on many TV, radio, theatre and records. He teaches at the "Musikhochschulen" in Zurich and Lucerne. News of his arrival did not take long to spread and he was introduced to Anne, Duchess of Maine, whose salon at Sceaux was a center of courtly society in the declining years of Louis XIV. His genial character strongly assisted him in securing the patronage of the Duchess, who made him her Surintendant de la musique at Sceaux about Mouret thus launched his adult career under highly favorable auspices.
His dramatic works made him one of the leading exponents of Baroque music in his country. Even though most of his works are no longer performed, Mouret's name survives today thanks to the popularity of the Fanfare-Rondeau from his first Suite de Symphonies. I contacted Verne Langdon about 12 years ago and he sent me the CD. He was such a nice,interesting and friendly man. He was an innovator in the Hollywood monster scene, and also had a gym fro old time theatrical wrestling. Sadly, he died about two years ago. His solo harpsichord compositions contain remarkable depictions of emotions and natural phenomena — Le Rappel des Oiseaux, Les Tourbillons for example — and some of the most technically demanding writing for harpsichord in the Baroque repertoire, performed with aplomb by Pieter-Jan Belder.
They do include some new innovations, such as the Alberti bass, looking forward to the Classical period. A unique set, an extensive Anthology of French harpsichord music! This set represents excellent value for money. It is the most comprehensive set yet of French harpsichord music, and spans over years, allowing the listener to fully comprehend the remarkable changes that took place during this fascinating period. In the early 18th century, the harpsichord has matured into its own style of short, evocative character pieces, which owe less and less to the dance archetypes.
Recorded in Italy and The Netherlands, , by leading harpsichordists, specialists in the style: Newly written liner notes are included in the booklet.
