It is difficult not to have your soul touched while there. The absolute highlight of our visit to Arlington was the honor to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I could not help but notice that 32 teenaged boys were absolutely silent and still during the entire ceremony. Clearly the importance and significance of the moment was not lost on them. I cannot stress how important it is for every American to visit this hollowed place.

  7. It will inspire, move, and stir you more than you can imagine! As a visitor recommendation A truly wonderful memorial - sombre yet beautiful, inspirational and humbling, the rows of marble headstones as well as the larger monuments are a really moving symbol and tribute. It's a tremendously peaceful place too - meticulously well-kept and with spectacular views down over DC.

    Things To See

    As you walk around the various sections, it really makes you think - and in this day and age, that's a very good thing. Yes, JFK is buried here and lots of other famous people but its the rows and rows and rows of simple white headstones that really bring home the message. As a Brit, I wish we had somewhere like Arlington.

    If you are in this area, this is definitely someplace that you have to visit. There are, of course, the obvious things to see, but there are beautiful sites, like the ampitheaters and such, as well as the view in some areas, that must be seen as well! As all others have mentioned this really is a must see when visiting the area! By giving his name and approximate year of death the helpful people in the Visitor's Center helped me locate my grandfather's gravesite. It was a beautiful day with temp's in the high 70's.

    Lot's of hills though so if you're coming in the summer please remember to bring water.

    STRANGER THINGS OUIJA BOARD IN A HAUNTED CEMETERY! OUIJA BOARD FOUND INSIDE OF TREE!!

    They do not sell any kind of refreshments in the cemetery including water. There were a few drinking fountains but not nearly enough! We did the whole cemetery by walking. There are a lot of hills so be prepared if you decide to walk. It's certainly walkable but again if it's hot you may want to consider the trolley.

    One other thing worth mentioning is that Arlington House Lee's house is being restored. There are no furnishings in the house at all and probably won't be until So if your walking up there and it is a bit of an uphill walk keep this in mind. The views from up by the house I thought were worth the walk but if you're expecting to see a furnished house you may be disappointed. Own or manage this property?
