Climate events, some of which are specific to Europe, are included to provide some general reference points. Comparison chart of events for the last , years: The 3 peaks shown on this temperature scale correlate with the most recent interglacial warm periods.

Smaller periods of warming, called interstadials , occur during glacial times, when the major influences come together but not as well as during interglacials, and they do not reach the warmer temperatures we enjoy today. The correlation of these climate events are found to generally hold true in analysis of older sediment too, but not necessarily as well; the climate record becomes harder to read as you follow it farther back in time.

We find, in fact, that today we live toward the end of one of these interglacial warm periods; and many societies, as they exist today, will simply not be sustainable in a coming glacial climate. Certainly, this is not the picture of the future that has been painted by the media and established science; both of which have described a future of excessive, even runaway, 'greenhouse" warming; but the facts do not support the conclusion of a continuously warmer climate. It is the purpose of this research, first to show the evidence that reveals the direction that the climate is taking us, and then also to demonstrate the importance of preparation- it will take some time to prepare for the onset of a cold glacial climate.

The above image shows three dolphins circling a small white flower, called dryas, which today is widespread in Arctic regions, and this against a background of a clock. Dryas is the name ascribed to the three most recent glacial events, termed the Younger, the Older and Oldest Dryas, respectively, during which this little flower is known to have extended southward into the middle latitudes, along with a cold climate, in many areas of the Northern Hemisphere.

If we think of the clock as representing the present Holocene geological period, then its hands can be seen to be ticking down the final minutes of the eleventh hour. Time is growing short, relatively speaking; and life on earth, symbolized by the dolphins, will need some time to adjust to the changing conditions- thus underscoring the need for human societies to begin preparations for living in a glacial world.

Background information:. I have had an interest in the study of climate for many years, and became particularly interested in with a paper that was published in the journal Nature that was the result of a multi-decadal study of the Atlantic Current by a team of British scientists. Beginning in this team periodically set up a system of measurment across the subtropical Atlantic; stretching from the Bahamas to North Africa- the entire width of the sub-tropical ocean basin at about 25 degrees north latitude.
