With the rerelease coming as a standalone novella, I did a re-read and yep, it's still just as funny and wonderful. A fast read that contains all of Tessa Dare's trademark humor and great attraction and sexy times between friends to lovers who have always had a thing for each other. I loved it! I received an e-ARC of the standalone from the publisher. I own the original duo-anthology by Tessa Dare and I originally read this in the duo-anthology it was first published in, Rogues Rush In, in I own the original duo-anthology by Tessa Dare and Christi Caldwell and read it originally in All opinions are my own.

Oct 04, Timitra rated it really liked it. Rated 4. I loved the banter between the main characters and the fact that the hero was grumpy and the heroine was sassy and gave as good as she got. I highly recommend to those in the mood for a quick, sweet and light read. Copy provided by author. Oct 05, Brandy rated it it was amazing. Loved this!!! Normally I have a hard time reading novellas but this one sucked me right in.

My only complaint is I wanted more!!

Oct 04, Shelee at Book Reader Chronicles rated it really liked it. His Bride for the Taking was a sweetly romantic love story between a woman and her brother's best friend after she's left at the altar.

This bite-sized tale had just the right amount of character development, relationship growth, and humor among the expected sensuality that I have come to crave from this author. If you're looking for a fun and sweet novella, look no further than this one. Oct 05, Heather Halloran rated it it was amazing. Loved this book as part of the rogues rush in A lovely story with lots of romance and wit Loved this book as part of the rogues rush in Oct 03, Catherine Stein rated it it was amazing.

I adore this little novella. It's sweet, heartfelt, sexy, and has Tessa's signature humor throughout. A great one-sitting read. Sebastian Ives steps in to marry Mary Clayton when she finds herself jilted at the altar. The banter between these two is top-notch. From awkward discussions about marital relations to arguments about furniture assembly reminiscent of what presently takes place every weekend as couples arrive home with their IKEA flat packs and firm ideas on construction , Sebastian and Mary are never short of words to say to each other.

What is also clear is the affection Sebastian and Mary feel for each other. Their words for the most part and actions show us this relationship is not purely about avoiding a scandal. Add a blazing attraction between them and these two are on fire! It might be a novella but we get a complete and fulfilling romance, complete with epilogue and most definitely a happy ever after.

Dec 10, Ami rated it really liked it Shelves: romance , historical-steampunk , novella. So when I picked this one up hoping that it would be good and it charmed me from the get go, I was pleased. Yes, Tessa Dare has delivered another delightful story. Yes, Mary is two years older than Sebastian. It made my heart expanded with warmth. It's great to read about older women and younger men albeit only 2-years apart and I think best friend's sister but with older ones are not done a lot.

So I welcome this addition. Mary is headstrong view spoiler [she actually PLANS the "bride being jilted at the altar" scene so Sebastian can elope with her hide spoiler ]. Sebastian is loyal, even if that loyalty stops her from going for what his heart wants the most -- his best friend's older sister. Eleven long years. More than four thousand days of wrestling the temptation to take Mary Clayton in his arms and… Well, from there the specifics varied.

And just like with all of Dare's books that I have read, there are humors Did you find a leaflet in the attic with instructions? In Swedish? Soup and pain. Or, as the French would call it, pain. Oh yes, lots of things making me smile heartily in this one! My only complain is during their last argument, I didn't get Sebastian's own thoughts.

It was all Mary's. I wanted to know what Sebastian was thinking before he took that decision to view spoiler [forgive Mary and her lies about the jilted-bride part hide spoiler ]. But all in all, good times. Oct 08, Sora rated it it was amazing Shelves: school-year This sweet, romantic book is a quick read and only a few pages.

The story is part of a larger book, but Kindle was having a sale on just this excerpt. It has a realistic-like quality This sweet, romantic book is a quick read and only a few pages.

For The Taking - Time Is Running Out (HD)

It has a realistic-like quality in that the couple bickers , but the rest is very romance-story like where there is a happily ever after ending and true loves ends up together. The protagonist marries for love! Dec 12, tysephine rated it really liked it Shelves: fiction , romance. I thought this was new to me, but a couple pages in it seemed awfully familiar. Checked goodreads and yep, I read it in an anthology. I reread it anyway because I'm a sucker for that "I've been secretly in love with you my entire life" storyline.

This is a hot mess from beginning to end. Ridiculous premise, unreal behaviours, unpleasant main characters. Not exactly the usual from Tessa Dare. Dec 11, Tess rated it liked it Shelves: m-f-romances. Oct 05, Roberta rated it it was amazing. A very entertaining and amusing romance. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Jan 05, Christina rated it liked it Shelves: romance-historical. Plus, the hero had long been attracted to her and felt protective of her. It also starts at the inciting incident that sets the plot in motion right away, and the hero and heroine are together most of the novel.

His Bride for the Taking | Tessa Dare

Ultimately this was solid and worth reading. A fun quick read that therefore worked well in eBook form for me, but not a standout. Jan 08, Mella rated it it was ok Shelves: ebook-library , ebook-read , social-themes-family , topic-death-grief , audience-adult , genre-historical , genre-romance , 2-stars , historical-marriage , historical-eloping.

It was easy enough to read but was pretty weak. Which to be fair, is about what you'd expect from a novella. The plot completely fell apart. It was just stupid. And unnecessary. It didn't add anything to the story. And it made me dislike Mary. They had no depth.

there for the taking

I did like the It was easy enough to read but was pretty weak. I did like the Ikea scene. But it felt very modern and out of place for the historical genre and it wasn't really enough to redeem the book.

  7. I'm coming to the conclusion I don't really like Tessa Dare's books. There's only been one so far that I've really enjoyed. Mostly they're just weak historical romance with no real plot, paper thin characters with no discernable depth and romance that contains an echo of fluff. So 2 stars, rounded up from 1. Because frankly it's a rare book that requires a 1 star rating.
