Yup, seems to not be working. I bricked a refiner this way on a kinda precious square meter of space inside my base that now I can't use for anything else. You know what will cheer you up?

Part wood, part metal, researched a lot of blueprints but this one never pops up in the list. Is there something I'm missing? Many posts I read say that it's a continuation of the base quest, but my base computer has stopped giving me any quests. This, in turn is a major branch of the Artemis mission chain. This is going to be spoilery, I guess, but its also year old info.
If I recall, while in space you will get an incoming communication shortly after leaving your first planet, I think. It'll be some garbled message with coordinates attached. You follow the waypoints and come in contact with Artemis, a Traveller who is trapped somewhere. They will eventually put you in touch with their friend Apollo, who will advise you to start building a base of operations so you can continue working towards finding Artemis.
The Overseer will ask you to go to or establish a base and build him a Terminal, which you'll get the blueprint for. Once you've built that terminal, the Overseer will basically teleport in. From there, the Overseer will instruct you to acquire more base personnel, build them terminals, and follow through with their missions. This section of the game will unlock a ton of portable and base tech, blueprints, farming tech and plants, the exocraft rovers , and more.
I played through a lot of that in Atlas Rises, but when Next was released I started a fresh save file. If you're on a "legacy save" and have never gotten these incoming communications while in space, I'm not sure how you can trigger them.
You may consider starting a fresh game. If you started fresh with Next, check your mission log. You might have "Alone Amidst the Stars" in your log and not realize it. And, lastly, the missions your base computer is generating are their own separate chain.

It doles out some tech that is unique and some that you can get through other missions. The Blueprint Analyzer is also a separate mechanic, but it sounds like you're familiar with that too. Thanks for your reply. It helps some, but now I'm a bit more confused since I feel like I've done some of that. I'm on a fresh game but I've left my first planet long ago, even visited the Space Anomaly many times but I don't recall this quest every triggering.

Its rules are stupid and its effects are stupid. How is rearranging the metaphor on a different node going to make you faster than on your own node? Or do you have to run reality filter against your own link just to make sure your preferred metaphor overwrites your preferred metaphor? And, from an effects perspective, what's the story appeal of having every matrix location look the same? Boo to reality filter, forever.

If you always have the same sculpting, you can immediately see what's what in the target node, so you can react faster. So a reality filter can have its uses, but I do agree that the rules are not really clear what happens if you don't run one. Science can turn a frog into a Ph.
The thing is, your Response while on someone else's node is used for two things, initiative and dodge in cybercombat. Being able to recognize that the bookshelf always represents a data dump shouldn't help you move faster than an opponent in cybercombat. Maybe it represent the ability to run with lower setting? Effectively reducing random sculpting details, thus assuring that you only see what is important and that the rest is put on a second level where it's not actively considered akin to FPS players playing their game on low setting to have a better frame-per-second and game response.
I always felt that it would be better to use it to interrupt or override someone else's paradigm and force them to use yours. Thus granting them a penalty.

The only thing I can see the reality filter being good for is that, since it is customized for said hacker, they react to it better than an off the shelf one. But that's not represented by the rules presented. If we are sad, we may fixate upon sad events to commiserate with. Much like getting our eyeglasses or contact lenses adjusted, our field of vision as determined by the lens through which we see the world can be blurry, convoluted, foggy, or simply distorted. As the window through which we process information, transition beyond our current or historical perspective becomes challenging at best.
Just as we have our teeth cleaned, our health assessed, and our eyes examined, we must assess the state of our lenses, the filters through which we see and experience everything around us. It is through these filters that we not only make decisions, but make determinations about what life means, if and where we belong, and what we do next. Yes this is the perfect moment, not specific to this time of year, but because you are a seeker, and one who desires more, whether in the form of happiness or fulfillment.
