Turns out Nick's a chick magnet. At home after school, Nick finds Alan surrounded by papers and looking exhausted. Nick tells Alan to focus on taking care of himself—apparently demon's marks can be pretty draining. Alan tells Nick not to worry, that they'll get everything fixed at the Goblin Market which is taking place in the next few days. They meet up with Mae and Jamie and bring them along to the market, where Alan buys a few new weapons, and Merris Cromwell, the unofficial matriarch of the market, gives Mae and Jamie a bit of background on demons and dancers.

They see a few of the dancers practicing, including a particularly beautiful and talented dancer in red who runs toward them, which thrills Mae, who greatly admired her dance. Dancing Up a Demon The dancer in red, Sin Davies, kisses Nick, and we find out that she's the favorite to succeed Merris as matron of the market someday. Nick feels lust for Sin at first, but it quickly turns to disdain when he doesn't like the way she looks at Alan—as though Alan's lame leg is something grotesque.

Nick glares at her his general response to most people then turns to Mae, who is clearly very excited by the whole Goblin Market experience.

Mae asks Merris for more detail about how the dances work as Nick begins to set up his dancer's circle. Merris and Alan explain that the demons are drawn to the dance because they crave human feelings and the dance allows them to share energy with the dancers. Of course, one false move or wrong word from the dancer though, and the demon might take over altogether. When Mae realizes that Nick is going to dance to help Alan get rid of his mark, she declares that she wants to dance to help her brother. Merris offers to tests Mae's speed and reflexes to see if she can.

Sure they're takers and if they possess a human body they'll kill it in a matter of days, but Alan believes demons aren't all bad. He thinks they're capable of love. Nick overhears this and thinks his brother's a sap. Meanwhile, Merris returns and declares Mae will be a fine dancer; then she partners Mae up with Nick.

Both Nick and Mae eat fever fruit, which helps the dancers to lower their inhibitions and give themselves over to the dance, and— whew —fever is right. Their dance is pretty steamy, and Anzu, a demon Nick has called before, responds to them right away. Since Nick isn't great with words, Alan speaks for him.

Faceless Summoner

But when the demon Anzu mentions that both Alan and Jamie were marked by magicians from The Obsidian Circle, which means that Alan could choose to have one of Jamie's marks transferred to him if he wanted, Mae says, "Please," and Alan agrees to have it done. Now, instead of Alan having a first tier mark and Jamie having a third tier one, they both have second tier marks.

Nick goes running off into the woods where, a few moments later, Mae catches up to him. Mae is pretty full of the fever fruit and the dance and the market and… a whole lotta lust. She grabs Nick and tries to kiss him, but Nick pushes her away—partially because he knows Alan likes her, and partially because he knows Mae is under the influence of some powerful juju after consuming fever fruit for the first time. He leaves her and wanders alone for a bit.

By the time he goes back to the market, Mae is cozied up with Alan, who also refuses to take advantage of her. Those Ryves brothers are regular sweethearts. More or less, anyway. Nick and Alan drive Mae and Jamie home, and Nick tries to pick a fight with Alan, but Alan says he won't talk to him while he still has fever fruit in his system. They drive in silence.

Alan's behind the wheel and Nick knows his leg is getting sore, but he refuses to relieve him. He's angry that Alan took on one of Jamie's marks instead of getting his own removed.

Alan's obviously in pain, but he won't ask Nick to drive anymore than Nick will offer, which leads Nick to think the difference between them is that Alan's a suicidal fool who'll sacrifice himself for anyone and Nick's a jerk. When they finally arrive home, Alan says he thinks Merris does experiments at her house that could help them deal with Black Arthur, if they could just find an excuse to get into her house.

Apparently it's pretty secretive and well guarded. Nick says what they need to do is kill a magician. According to the demon Anzu, this is the only way to get rid of a second tier mark: kill a magician and use his blood to wipe away the marks. Alan thinks it's a possibility, but Nick thinks it's unlikely. They've killed magicians who have come for them, but they've never deliberately sought one out, and magicians tended to live in groups that were tough to penetrate. Nick blows up at Alan for taking on Jamie's mark and insinuates that—once again—Alan was trying to impress Mae.

He slams his car door and runs off, eventually showing up at the garage where he's been working and slaving away on cars until evening. When he finally sees Alan again at breakfast the next morning, they patch things up. Nick leaves for school, but goes instead to an abandoned lot where he creates another dancer's circle and summons a second demon—one named Liannan that he's spoken to before—in an attempt to get some information that will help his brother. Liannan comes when summoned and agrees to answer Nick's first question if he'll remove his talisman.

He does it and then asks her where to find the group of magicians that the demon Anzu mentioned, the Obsidian Circle. Liannan tells him two things: first, that the Obsidian Circle is the group responsible for the death of Daniel Ryves, and second that they are in Exeter, but that they're leaving.

Nick asks her what her price is to answer another question—where the Obsidian Circle is going—and she tells him she'll do it if he'll give her a moment of warmth. Nick remembers a time, just after his father died, when Alan used to cry himself to sleep every night. For a moment he worries that he won't be able to dredge up any warmth and worries that Liannan will be able to possess him because he can't hold up his end of the bargain.

If We Were Giants

But then he remembers Alan limping into his room, crawling into bed with him, and saying, "You're mine. And I'm going to take care of you" 6. Liannan feels the warmth and tells Nick he doesn't need to go looking for the Obsidian Circle… They're coming for him.

Nick goes home to find that Mae and Jamie have arrived. Nick snarls truly and Alan tries to calm him down by explaining that it makes sense—they need to be there when the magicians are killed so Jamie can be healed.

Nick huffs and puffs and tells them what he's learned—that the Obsidian Circle is coming after them. Alan says that should make it easy to find a couple of magicians, and Nick is stunned by his reaction. It sounds to him like Alan is playing right into Black Arthur's hands. Alan insists he has a plan but won't tell anyone what it is, and Nick resents his secrecy. Alan asks Nick to trust him and just do what he asks him to do, and Nick reluctantly agrees.

What other choice does he have? But he can't help thinking of the girl in the picture and getting upset at the fact that his brother is keeping still more secrets from him. The Intruders Nick has a hard time adjusting to sharing a house with Mae and Jamie, though he's glad to share a room with Alan, who has nightmares every night thanks to his second tier mark.

Alan, of course, loves having Mae and Jamie around, which makes Nick even more resentful of their presence. Their parents are pretty self-absorbed, and since they're divorced, they haven't even noticed Mae and Jamie have run away—each parent thinks the kids are at the other parent's house, and they haven't bothered to check up on them at all.

Nick bonds a little more or less with Jamie over cooking omelets—which Jamie is horrible at—and Nick tells him a little more about magicians: that they're power hungry, that some are successful politicians or actors, and that some are regular people "who just happen to have the ability to change shape or control the weather" 7.

No one—not even Merris Cromwell—has ever known about her because she was once a magician. Now Mae visits her regularly. Nick gets angry about Mae's casual relationship with Mum one night at dinner and things get tense. Mae stomps out. Jamie suggests Nick could apologize to her, and Nick makes an attempt. They chat, and things get flirty and even a little steamy until Nick remembers Alan's feelings for Mae and backs away. Instead of making out, Mae helps Nick with his English homework at Alan's suggestion.

When the lights go out, things border on steamy again this chapter is a rollercoaster of hormones , but then Nick goes to check on Alan. Alan's fine. He's looking at maps and making plans by candlelight. They call Mae and Jamie to join them and Alan lets everyone in on his idea. The Obsidian Circle is surely setting up a summoning circle near Stonehenge since it's a powerful magical place and not too far away , so they should be able to capture a couple of magicians near there. Things seem to be looking up until Nick notices Alan shoving the book with the picture out of sight and realizes his brother's still trying to keep the picture secret.

Later on Alan tells Nick that he's hoping he and Mae might have a chance as a couple when all of this is over.

How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Episode 8 English Dub

Nick turns away, disgusted with his brother's constant pining for a relationship, and when he turns back he sees Alan reaching under his pillow to touch his stupid book—the one with the picture—as if it's comforting to him in some way. The next morning, Nick steals the picture. The Capture At school Nick skips his usual hang with the tough crowd and uses the time to place an ad in the paper with the picture and a message reading, "If you have any information about Marie, please call" 8.

Alan, Mae, and Jamie pick Nick up from school and they head to Salisbury, the nearest city to Stonehenge. Alan and Mae will drive to Stonehenge and look around while Nick and Jamie try to figure out where in Salisbury the magicians might be staying. Nick and Jamie spot a magician in a pub and Nick—after a long chase across rooftops—manages to capture him. Nick is greatly relieved to know that finally Alan will be safe. Chains They bring the unconscious magician back to the house and chain him up.
