Her dauther, Salome, ends up doing a strip tease for Herod at a drunken party and he gets so aroused that he offers her anything in his kingdom. Herodias still angry with John convinces her daughter to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Herod obliges and this is the reason that John dies. Edwards story finds John in the third cell of the prison awaiting execution. He explores the facts that Jesus never gives John an answer as to why he had to die. He never gets an explanation as to why he had served Jesus his entire life only to be beheaded because of a drunken king and his vindictive wife niece.

The final chapters detail those final moments and Edwards again paints a vivid picture of the execution of John coupled with the heart of Jesus. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? This was my first book from this author. My only complaint was it came to an end much sooner than I wanted. I will be reading all of Mr. Edwards books in the next few months. I just love the simply way he presents which I am able to get such a better understanding from. This should be a must read for all God fearing and loving persons. It is an excellent read for anyone that is beginning to answer to the pull they feel deep within to begin a relationship with their creator. I urge you to answer the pull.

You will never regret it. It is a book that is principally about forgiveness and how it is more important that grudges or revenge. I read this book during a particularly rough time in my life where I felt I had been wronged by someone close to me. This book takes a look at David's actions towards Saul and later towards his son Absalom. Saul and Absalom both attempted to have David killed because they felt that he was a threat to their kingdoms. Edwards does a great job of disarming the reader while informing them of how God views forgiveness. An excellent book that should be read by anyone who has ever been wronged.

I highly recommend it! This book rocked my world and had me in tears. It will reach into your heart and smack you. I don't think anyone can read it and not be affected by its message. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up.

This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Dec 02, Bethany rated it it was amazing. From the author of The Three Kings: A Tale of Brokenness comes a book of equal profundity in its simplicity.

This book takes its approach from the point of view of John the Baptist and answers the question, "What is my response when God doesn't meet my expectations? This will all make sens From the author of The Three Kings: This will all make sense someday. It'll be worth it.

But is that really true? JtB never got to understand how his investment reaped results. He never got to hear the words from Jesus that he was among the greatest that the world would ever know. There was no evidence that his life of living for a calling was anything more than a waste. Though he prepared the way for the Son of God, he didn't have the joy of seeing Jesus come in glory.

Yet what was his response when God didn't make sense? When his life felt unfair? This book does not disappoint. It challenges me to trust and see beyond my circumstances, and my devotion that desires some reciprocation. This novella is a nice quick read. The writer's purpose seems to be to address the eternal question "Why does God let bad things happen to good people.

I liked the flashback, showing that Jesus was in Egypt when the Israelites were slaves, that he walked among them and saw their pain and cared. Although they didn't immediately know there was an answer to their anguish, Jesus knows there will be a deliverer in Moses. I was disappointed i This novella is a nice quick read. I was disappointed in the description of John's encounter with Jesus at the river Jordan.

I felt that the most dramatic encounter between the two of them was totally down-played. You wouldn't even know that Jesus was baptized by John--it sounds like he never even left the river bank. My favorite quote from the book is before the story even starts--and seems to be a summary of the author's point, "It has been said that it is impossible to forgive a man who deliberately hurts you for the sole purpose of destroying you or lowering you. If this be true, you have but one hope to see this unfair hurt as coming by permission from God for the purpose of lifting your stature above that place where formerly you stood.

We often don't think much about John's early years, but they formed and shaped his whole ministry. And at the end, the key questions: Will you follow a God who does not live up to your expectations? I'll need to reread this in a little while to think on it more carefully. Feb 01, Angela Smith rated it it was amazing. Amazing book that delves into the life of John the Baptist and how his life can be applied to our present situation.

This is a very short read and definitely worth your time. It will make you re-evaluate how you see your life and your present struggles and relationship with God. Chapter 18 was amazing and had me in tears. And the questions in Chapter 19 - "Will you follow a God you do not understand? I wanted really badly to like this book. It was a promising topic and should have been thought provoking.

Instead I felt like I should have been grading it along with the rest of my high school enlgish papers. The characters are barely fleshed out and the dialouge is horribly stilted and affected.

Will you love a God whom you do not understand? Oct 31, Eric Black rated it liked it Shelves: More explanation is required than is given in response to these words spoken by Jesus: Death stands beside you. Certainly God does not live up to many of our expectations, but portraying Jesus so ascetically leaves out the biblical account of his hatred of death and suffering. He does acknowledge the difficulty in coming to grips with Jesus. Sep 05, Concetta Kellough rated it it was amazing. A short book that centers on John the Baptist and Jesus' response to John's question, "Are you the Messiah, or should we look for another?
