Of course, the metal parts can rust if exposed to moisture and never cleaned, and the pickguard will show wear and age if you own it long enough. Play the same guitar in a bar for 10 years and it will look relic'd, no matter the finish. But, really, I don't get why anybody cares. Most folks don't seem to be interested in doing that.

ADDITIONAL NEWS

Ok thanks. I also noticed that one time when i bashed my strat which has a poly finish it looked more like smashed glass than a chip in some paint. How thick is the finish?!? Messages: 7, Age: 47 Messages: 4, Every finish relics but poly will just take much longer and not in the same way that nitro does. I have seen old 70s Fenders that were finished in thick poly but quite beat up after years of use. In my opinion, nothing ages as well as nitro though. The aging process is fast and the wear looks great because there is usually a lot of small chips that flake off as well as the finish losing glossiness in certain areas.

Poly is harder so often there are larger chunks of paint that fall off.

Age: 43 Messages: 2, I like my guitars to stay new looking as long as possible. I like poly, but I also like the look of relic guitars. I guess we have the best of both worlds. Poly stays looking new and nice for a long time, and nitro looks good reliced. Messages: 6, I will be soooo glad when all this phony "relic" business just seems like a horrible idea some folks had at the time. Like polyester jumpsuits My MIM's poly finish also looks like it's an inch thick. Hopefully the neck will wear well:. I just don't like the way the poly finish feels against my skin.

  5. My 23 year old MIJ strat has a poly finish and it gets played quite regularly almost daily for at least half an hour, usually more , the finish on the neck has some minor wear marks where the palm of my hand rubs on the edge of the fret board, the body has absolutely no sign of wear yet accept for dings and dents.
