When Alexis, in a fit of anger, faces off with Marcy, it's heard by everyone on the set. A day or so later, Alexis goes to Marcy's office to try to apologize and maybe clear the air, but instead finds Marcy dead. She had been bludgeoned with her Emmy and shoved under her desk. The authorities put Alexis at the head of their list as prime suspect because when they were questioned, most of the cast told the police about the altercation between Alexis and Marcy.

They, too, did not doubt Alexis' guilt. Alexis decides to take on a little amateur detective work of her own to prove her innocence. Who would want to kill Marcy, and why?

The Soap Opera Mystery Series in Order - Eileen Davidson - FictionDB

Against the wishes of her mother and the advice of her lover, she begins to go in search of a killer. I might read the second one, I don't know. Apr 04, Paige rated it really liked it. Eileen Davidson is not only a great actress, she can also write a great cozy mystery.

I really enjoyed this, and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Sep 21, Donna Peake rated it liked it Shelves: books-read. I love soaps so I most likely will read 2. Jan 27, Vilia rated it it was ok Shelves: cozy-mystery.

Writing a mystery with a soap opera diva detective is a smart move as it is obviously a world she is familiar with. A head writer with a grudge against our protagonist has her head smashed in with her Emmy and Alexis is the prime suspect. It is a fun story even though it is not terribly complicated. The main character, Alexis Petersen, seems to walk around in a bit of a bubble. I would have liked a deeper sense of how Alexis became the way she did beyond the cursory background we were given. The secondary characters were also drawn with the same broad strokes.

Some of the situations she gets herself into beggar belief as her investigating skills are fairly basic. If I read any more of this series, I hope Alexis improves in this department. I guessed the baddie fairly easily even though there were a few red herrings slipped in to trip up the unwary reader. The plot dragged a bit in the middle with the obligatory potential love triangle.

5 soap-opera murder mysteries where the non-contract player did it!

Generally speaking, all the right ingredients were there but they needed greater finesse. Humour was sprinkled throughout and it made the book more palatable. I think that future books will probably be more engaging as Davidson refines her style. Jun 08, Cassie rated it really liked it Recommends it for: mystery readers. Shelves: mysteries. What a fun little mystery!! This book is not one of those high-brow stories by any means, but it is a fun little read where you are wondering for the greater majority of the book who the killer is. I recognize that this is the first novel written by Eileen Davidson, who is primarily an actress known for What a fun little mystery!!

I recognize that this is the first novel written by Eileen Davidson, who is primarily an actress known for roles on Days of Our Lives and Young and the Restless, so I thought this was a rather good attempt at creating a mystery story. I think she mixes just enough of her own individual knowledge of being an actress with the threads for the mystery aspect that it comes out just right in both directions. This is a book where you have to get through the initial few chapters because Davidson has to get her footing, but once you get past that you will greatly enjoy the book.

Also she adds elements as it goes along that will make reading subsequent books interesting, such as a love triangle. They feel like people that a real actress would have surrounding her, which adds a very believable element to this story. There is not a lot of help in discovering the killer in this particular book because I think Davidson is used to more of the dialogue of a soap opera, which doesn't necessarily help her out in the writing here, which is why I give it only four instead of five. I believe as she progresses as an author she will get better, thus I believe the subsequent books will be a thrill to read.

Jun 09, Dalene rated it really liked it Shelves: , cozy-mystery. I had this book on my shelf to read for a while and quickly grabbed it as my next cozy read. I read the back of the book, and the author bio caught my attention. She is currently starring in the international sensation The Bold and the Beautiful. I hesitated and wondered if I should grab another one, but then decided no I needed to just read it.

Mystery surrounds TV star’s sad death

This was an exciting cozy. The writing was superb. The characters were entertaining. The details of the filming and set information was not overdone. The potential and past relationships were well balanced. The crime was well thought out. It all came together very well. There were a couple times I thought I had guessed right at who had done it and in the end I was wrong. If you are looking for an entertaining, fun, fast read, this book is for you. I was also excited to see there was a second book in the series, now if I can just get my hands on it!!

Sep 29, Michelle Randall rated it liked it Shelves: cozy-mystery. I'm always in the mood for a new Cozy Mystery series, and I picked up books 1 and 2 of this one on PaperbackSwap so I thought I would give them a chance. The author is a long-time soap actress and so she would know about the soap world, although I don't think I have ever seen any of this occuring before, but it's a cozy mystery. The lead character, Alex looks like the author in my mind, and she is engaging enough, you feel for her and you like her, but she's just kinda there.

I don't know, there I'm always in the mood for a new Cozy Mystery series, and I picked up books 1 and 2 of this one on PaperbackSwap so I thought I would give them a chance. I don't know, there is just something about her that pushes me back a bit, and maybe that is on purpose since her ex-husband embazzled money from her and others and so she is always holding others at arms links.

The detective counter-part in this if Frank Jakes, of just Jakes, and he comes across as a bit of a ladies man. I liked it well enough to read the second book in the series, and maybe I will know more then, but over-all it was a good read, just not my favorite, but good enough to try another and to recommend to friends.

A Soap Opera Mystery

Having never written a book myself, I really shouldn't give this book such negative feedback, but dang, it was horrible. Right from the start the character says that she's not a diva. All she does is talk about herself. And her kid. Here's a thought lady, stop snooping around and getting whacked on the head and start spending time with your child. I got so tired of hearing about it. Anyway, this is about a soap star to gets accused of murder so naturally she takes it upon herself to Having never written a book myself, I really shouldn't give this book such negative feedback, but dang, it was horrible.

Anyway, this is about a soap star to gets accused of murder so naturally she takes it upon herself to find out who did it. As horrible as this book was, I really did not expect the killer to be who it was. So thumbs up to her for that.
