From the manufacturer No information loaded. Write a review. Restrictions apply. This a very early printing but in a much later jacket. The list of titles by the author only lists this book and those published earlier; "Betsy and Joe" is not listed. Therefore it is certainly early.

The jacket however is from a much later copy, with and ISBN printed on the spine. As to condition: the interior of the book is Fine; no previous owner name or marks, perfectly clean and crisp, nice and bright. Very fresh! The blue cloth boards are nice but have light white spotting.

I think the book must have just changed to the smaller format it was first printed as a larger book , because the jacket has large front and back flaps and the illustration on the front panel extends into the part folded into the book. I haven't seen this with other vintage copies. In any case, this book is in beautiful condition; it looks new, not over 70 years old. Red cloth cover with gilt lettering to cover and spine; top edge red; illustrated endpapers map. The book is completely clean and bright, no previous owner name of marks or stains.

There is a slight publisher's fault in that some of the pages are cut a bit short of the bottom edge; again, see photos. The price-clipped jacket is clean and bright, no tears, no chipping. There is a little mild rubbing and the back flap has a small bit of price sticker residue.

Clean, clean, solid, handsome copy. No previous owner name or marks, pages bright. Only flaw really, and it is minor, is to front cover, where there are two small white areas.

Looks like a bit of powder but doesn't brush off--not sticky, not raised. The first books are written for children, while those at the end of the series are written for ages 14 and up. Although the books are fiction, their characters are based closely on Lovelace's own family and friends.

Many characters can be matched with individuals, while others are composites drawn from incidents in the lives of several people. The settings reflect extensive research done by Lovelace and, for the first four books, illustrator Lois Lenski, [9] as well as Lovelace's memories.

Most of the novels take place in and around the fictional town of Deep Valley, Minnesota , which is based on the author's actual hometown of Mankato, Minnesota. The Ray family and other characters inhabit the houses of their real-life counterparts.
