Overall, I found it helpful when it comes to explaining positive reinforcement training and in solving problems with dog behaviour. As I am new to training a dog, I found the explanation of each training elements to be quite helpful. That said, I did not find the layout to be helpful as there lacked a sense of cohesion.

As a first timer, this book left me a bit high and dry when it comes to knowing where to start. Thankfully, I am using the I essentially power read through this book in one night. Thankfully, I am using the Power of Positive Dog Training as a companion and they make up for each other's deficiencies. This volume has helpful information for new puppies, house training and crate training.

It provide excellent information on these elements that was lacking in other books. In addition, there is extensive information on understanding a dog's mood and behaviour. This provide much practical information and plenty of positive methods to shape and reinforce behaviour in your dog. Coupled with a rough training schedule and from The Power of Positive Dog Training, I feel as if I have the comfort to start the process.

I haven't read it cover to cover yet, but have found useful information when I needed to problem solve and use it as a reference.

Hopeful I will be able to find time to sit down and read every page soon. It helps me facilitate my position at our local animal shelter. One person found this helpful. This book is very informative. I have already tried several suggested method to correct behavior and they worked. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about training their dog.

My only complaint is that it can be hard to find particular skills. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Although I have a few criticisms, over all this book met my expectations. I read this book during random spare moments rather than all at once, but I could not help noting a few repeat errors in the Kindle edition that were a bit frustrating. And I hate to sound nit-picky, but the advice to seek professional help is the basic solution offered for most of the problem behaviors that are discussed in the book.

Nonetheless, I know this book will serve as another helpful reference for me in the near future, when my puppy finally comes home. I am admittedly a bit nervous about puppy training in part because I have not had a puppy of my own in almost a dozen years , but Teoti Anderson always makes it all sound so logical and relatively easy.
