Unlike the previous two books in this trilogy romance actually plays a large part of this final installment. However, like with most everything in this series it was handled expertly. Instead of detracting from the plot or feeling like it's poorly crammed into the story, it's something that effects not only Kira but at times pushes the plot on and adds to the complexity of this final story.

With this being the last book in this series there was, surprisingly, still a lot to learn about this world. There are characters that we had yet to meet, as well as some I never actually thought out heroes would meet. We also learn a lot more about the island of Jindo and the monks that live there as that's the first place Kira goes to not only save Taejo, but to claim the last of the Dragon King's treasures, the jade belt. While I was hoping that the belt would have played a larger role in the story than it did, the little that we did get to see of it in this story was pretty spectacular.

The predictability of this book, and this series, is very unique. With this book especially there are moments where large twists would happen and I would either have a delayed reaction or nearly no reaction at all. It's not that it didn't surprise me, but with one twist in particular, I believe I wasn't shocked because it just seemed to fit so perfectly that on some level I already knew, and with the one specific twist where I had a delayed reaction that was probably because it was so hard to believe until I got closer to the end and realized it wasn't going to be retconned.

There are so many things I could say about this ending, so many wonderful things, but I'll try to keep it brief.

Frequently bought together

During the last few chapters I knew something was missing, something that would, in some way, make the story whole. When I finally realized what it was that was missing, well then it happened. It only made the moment all the more special. The ending is definitely not what I had envisioned during the first half of this book, but that final battle was so vivid. As for the epilogue, well that was just the cherry on top. As you may well know I love when series end with some sort of epilogue, whether it contains information about what happens to our heroes years after the final climax or even if it's only months.

This one showed a closer future and really just tied up all the loose ends that were left hanging at the very end. While I was left wanting more, it wasn't because the story felt unfinished, but more because this series was so well written and brilliantly crafted that part of me ached for more even though every part of me knew it was over. I can't wait to see what this author will right next! Feb 22, Jo Oehrlein rated it it was ok Shelves: You really need to know what went on in the other books. Love triangles are bad enough.

Hardback Editions

Resolving a love triangle by having one person die is worse. I felt like the only character who had any dimension at all was Kira. There was such a big deal about the monks stealing children and then when Kira made it to the temple, she never saw any kids, never rescued anyone held there involuntarily, or anything.

Oct 07, Vi the Vi3tBabe rated it really liked it Shelves: I loved that Oh kept the momentum going throughout the series, keeping me glued to the stories and invested in the characters. Prophecy introduced readers to a great set of characters, especially Kira, and I loved seeing them all grow and develop.

The Dragon King Series

King was exactly the kind of ending I was hoping for. Kira was, by far, the best part of this series. I loved her character so much! She also had her funny, witty moments, too, which I loved. Things changed a lot for Kira in this last book and it was gripping seeing how she handled everything. Her emotions and turmoil were written so well, I really felt for the girl.

She definitely surprised me at the end and it nice to see her finally bear her heart and soul to the world. I honestly never felt bored while reading this book. Everything just flowed nicely and fit well with the progression of these characters and their story. Oh gives you just the right amount of detail. The fantasy and magic aspect of the book was amazing, and I loved that Oh threw in a bit of humor and romance to spice things up, which totally added to the appeal of the book. Overall, King is an amazing conclusion to one of my favorite fantasy reads.

The story is unique and riveting and I love the sense of empowerment and strength Oh conveys with her characters, especially Kira. Apr 20, April rated it really liked it Shelves: Frankly, this is a pretty fun fantasy trilogy that has flown under the radar. Feb 25, Tawney rated it really liked it. King was a fast read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a great conclusion to the Prophecy Series. It had been fun reading about Kira and seeing her adventures through all three books. She will do anything to get him back. This is what I loved about the book. A strong female lead that can stand out on her own is such a pleasure to read.

She did have doubts about herself during the journey. During the course of the books Kira relied on herself but soon found life long friends to help her save her world and cousin. Romance plays a part in this book compared the other two. We have Jaewon and Shin as the doting suitors. There is always a choice to pick and Kira does that.

It may not be the choice I thought it would be but it was acceptable. Even in the third book she creates new characters and wonderful places to visit. King was a wonderful wrap up to a series that explores Korean myths. Dragons, tigers, battles and a heroine demon slayer that kicks ass. Mar 20, Bookworm rated it it was ok. Disappointing end after such a promising start. I had high hopes for the trilogy after reading the first book really, the start of the first book. The second one was weak but I thought and hoped it was really more of the "middle entry syndrome" that's really a bridge between the beginning and the end.

Unfortunately it seems I'm just not a YA fan. There's not a lot of suspense here. It mostly ends well it's that kind of trilogy but how we got there was kinda boring. I disliked the romance tak Disappointing end after such a promising start. I disliked the romance taking more of a prominent role here unavoidable perhaps, but I still don't like it.

The removal of one of the legs of the triangle seemed It felt like a cop-out since I had hoped that maybe the author wouldn't go such a predictable route. I also didn't care for the romance at all, possibly because I saw the pairing coming. As other reviews have said, it does seem anti-climatic. There is one big huge battle of course but it seemed rushed and a bit I'm not sure what was off about it, although the book itself also wasn't really up to par either. In the end it was a boring ending to what became an ultimately boring series. I feel like it might have been better as a single, one long epic book instead of being forced into three.

I wonder if the the writing might have been tightened up better instead of having to have material stretched out to three books. Still, I was curious about this author and would consider reading something else by her. The trilogy had potential and I liked that it was set in East Asia than in the West. Borrowed the set from the library and think that's probably best. Apr 19, Becky B rated it really liked it Shelves: Kira and Jaewon set off to Jindo Island to rescue Taejon from the clutches of the dragon Fulang, and Kira also needs to find the last of the Dragon King's treasures there.

There's just a few problems with this quest. Fulang and the treasure are at a temple guarded by seriously evil priests who no one in known history has seen and lived to tell about. But giving up isn't an option, so off to the crazy island they go. And if they survive that then there's the big show down with the daimyo and the Kira and Jaewon set off to Jindo Island to rescue Taejon from the clutches of the dragon Fulang, and Kira also needs to find the last of the Dragon King's treasures there.

And if they survive that then there's the big show down with the daimyo and the Demon Lord Kira's brothers are getting the armies ready for. Quite the satisfying conclusion to the series, though there were some casualties along the way and pleasant surprises too that I didn't expect. Can't say too much without giving away much of the plot, but I was surprised that the events at Jindo Island only take up the first half of the book, the rest is left for the build up to and big show down with the Demon Lord and his minions. The parts on Jindo were actually my favorite.

Now to get this one on to eagerly waiting students. Oh, and by the way, don't read this on an empty stomach. Ellen Oh does a fantastic job of describing delicious meals all throughout A couple borderline words some may consider minor swearwords. No sexual content beyond a kiss. Like the other books, there's more fighting with demons who are more like zombies but there's actually less fighting in this one than the last one. Some wounds are mentioned, but also less gore than the last book and not as much description. The big finale battle has lots of people dying, but very few wounds are described in detail.

Mostly just one that doesn't end up fatal. Apr 07, Aqeela Khan rated it it was ok. What the hell just happened??? So the book started of fine.. So many times I checked the cover and author name to make sure I. I mean he is such an annoying ass. Kira hunts for food, collects water, fights demons and she is totally fine with river sea ocean traveling. The point cuz of which I start reading this book. No it's the biggest mistake made in this book which made me write this whole review The 3 stars r just be cuz of the few excited events in the book.

Could have been allloooooooootttttt better but they screwed it up. I am deadly upset about it. Jun 28, Samantha rated it liked it Shelves: It follows a brave young woman set out to protect her younger cousin from literally the forces of evil. I was excited to pick up Warrior and King, book 2 and 3 of the trilogy. So it makes me wonder why push on two additional books.

There was little to no new developments, new tension, or discoveries in either Warrior or King. New characters appear, but with little to no significance. She has no time for that! So, why are they still pushing it onto her. Oddly enough, even the characters felt out of character.

All of a sudden they felt different or were acting in a different manner without any explanation or prelude. Again, like I noted when I reviewed Prophecy, it felt like I was being told the story, instead of being immersed into the fantasy world of the Seven Kingdoms. Unfortunately, although I enjoyed Prophecy, both Warrior and King fell short of my expectations.

I honestly wish I liked them more, but nope. Nov 16, Jeraca rated it liked it Shelves: I received this free eARC in exchange for my honest review. What a wonderful ending! There were things that I was expecting and other things that took me by surprise! I finished this book within hours, wanting to know how it will end and the writing was done wonderfully that I didn't stumble over any part in the novel. I'm so glad that I read this book. Not only does it involve dragons, which I'm weirdly fascinated by, but also tigers, which I love! And Kira is one tough lady. She is the only wo I received this free eARC in exchange for my honest review.

She is the only woman warrior and she is bad ass enough to own it. She knows what she has to do and doesn't hesitate. And she doesn't want any help from anyone because she knows they will just keep her from her potential. I'm a little upset about the guy she ended up with as I was rooting for the other guy. I'm even more upset about what happened to the other guy. But Kira seems happy so I guess it's good for her.

But I'm glad the other guy made up for the less than honorable actions at the beginning of the series.

So glad to have read this! I will definitely be recommending it to my friends and to the teens at my library as I think they will really enjoy this series! Oct 29, Kimberly rated it liked it. This one was the most mixed for me. On one sense, I was generally pleased with the story and how everything went. On the other hand, it had the most of the brothers flipping out over her interacting with boys. On top of that, there was too much of a theme of fate and faith in this one.

They were basically saying that everything that happens was because of fate, which really downplays the fact that this awesome chick is saving the world and doing awesome things - it's not really her, it was just This one was the most mixed for me. They were basically saying that everything that happens was because of fate, which really downplays the fact that this awesome chick is saving the world and doing awesome things - it's not really her, it was just her fate causing it.

That was really grating to me. I also generally liked the ending, but I did not like the final scene with her and her boy on the bridge. She was literally begging him not to leave her and she had to sacrifice a big portion of who she was in order to prove her love to him not because he asked her to, but because she had a choice to pick him or get back a big portion of who she was.

That was mixed in with all sorts of surface messages about how she was awesome and girl power, but like the others, it really didn't ring true to me. Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this series, although it did engage me and was an enjoyable read. Feb 11, Lakesha Foster rated it really liked it. I loved the final book of this series. The characters very adventures and smart.
