Seaver is also overseeing the menu direction and the new culinary team at Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hengst's and Jared Rager's award-winning restaurant on Capitol Hill. Seaver has been lauded as a leader in sustainability by Seafood Choices Alliance and was recently named a Food Fellow with Blue Ocean Institute for his efforts to help link the environmental community with real-life, delicious applications of an eco-friendly ethic.

Seaver's childhood in D. Seaver attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where after finishing his formal education he stayed on as a graduate fellow in the meat and fish departments. With unlimited access to nearly every commercially available fish, he came to love the versatility of seafood. Having been bitten by the travel bug, Seaver found himself in southern Spain as the chef of a family run resort.

The casual, ingredient-based cooking would prove to be an important influence in his perception of food and community. When the off-season came, he hopped on a boat to Morocco and landed in the small seaside village of Essaouiera. There he took part in generations-old fishing methods and became part of a community whose survival was directly linked to the oceans. This had a great impact on his belief that sustainability is, at its root, a humanitarian issue, not only an ecological matter.

In , he turned his sights to Georgetown and opened Hook, a restaurant focused on sustainable seafood. Throughout the course of a single year the restaurant served 78 species of seafood, and Seaver's devotion to the sustainable ethic earned him spots in the national media.

Keeping with the momentum, he opened a New England-style seafood shack called TackleBox. While these restaurants provided an excellent stage to spread the word about the plight of our oceans, Seaver left in to pursue a wider audience for his message. While sustainability has largely been assigned to fish and agriculture, Seaver's work expands far beyond the dining table to include socio-economic and cultural issues.

From its modest seat, breakfast-only beginnings to its current seat, full-service version, Nicks has always focused on seasonally inspired, locally sourced food and service. With passion and close attention to detail, Wagner focuses on bringing gourmet food and attentive service to his customers in an unpretentious and upbeat atmosphere. Staying connected to the community and local producers and growers is paramount to Wagner, and it's the philosophy that's come to shape Nicks on Broadway.

Does the panelboard allow tandems?

Starting years ago, he developed and fostered strong relationships with local growers and producers, in addition to setting up herb and vegetable gardens on the premises and planting fruit trees in his nearby yard. Whatever he can't produce or grow at Nicks, Wagner tries to source carefully, locally and thoughtfully. He aims for zero waste by drying, curing, pickling and making stocks, sauces, extracts and powders out of all trim, and composting the rest for the following year's gardens. Growing up in New York in the '80s, Andrew Zimmerman's childhood goal was a fairly common one — he wanted to be a rock star.

Here's an old formula for determining how many circuits are allowed in the Class CTL panelboard being inspected; this formula is helpful to use when inspecting older electric panels without clear labeling inside the panel. Take the amperage of the panelboard, multiply by the number of poles, and divide by It sounds complicated, but it's not — let's use a amp panelboard as an example:.

This formula is also no longer applicable for today's panels. Previous editions of the NEC limited the maximum number of circuits in a lighting and appliance panelboard to Manufacturers still list the maximum number of circuit breakers allowed, and must provide a rejection feature to help prevent the use of tandem circuit breakers where not allowed. This is probably where the term "cheater" comes from. As clearly indicated by the label on the side of the circuit breaker pictured below, these circuit breakers are not allowed in ClassCTLpanelboards.

The difficulty for home inspectors is that the marking is not usually visible after installation, and home inspectors aren't supposed to pull out circuit breakers to try to figure this stuff out. The model or part number of the electric panelboard usually will indicate whether or not the electric panelboard is designed to accept tandem breakers and how many can be used. Here are a few examples:. In the photo below, you can see that the top four spaces allow only full size breakers, while the bottom eight slots allow tandem breakers.

And another — this panelboard allows tandem breakers in the bottom ten spaces only and In the photo below, you can see that only 20 circuits are allowed at the panelboard. When tandem circuit breakers are used in locations where they're not allowed, they could make an improper physical connection to the bus bar in the panelboard, which can create a fire hazard.

Tandem circuit breakers also increase the total load on the bus bars in a panelboard; this is where home inspectors need to use common sense. When a home inspector finds tandem circuit breakers used in improper locations, they'll often recommend repair by an electrician. If the bus bars of the panelboard have been damaged or altered to allow for the installation of tandem circuit breakers, the proper repair is to have the panelboard replaced.

There is no way for a home inspector to determine if the bus bars have been damaged without actually removing the circuit breakers, which is something home inspectors shouldn't be doing.
