She does show some typical insecurities until she realizes the big picture and then she's very secure. I also love that she's a great beauty, but doesn't realize it. Brockton is such a man! Tough, compassionate, passionate, p Maria is rescued by a cruel aunt and uncle by a dashing gentleman, Mr.

Tough, compassionate, passionate, protective. I loved the story of when the two met when they were younger. I have boys 8 and 12 and can just picture their reaction to a little 3 year old girl. Oct 19, Brenda rated it really liked it. I'd seriously be engrossed reading a shopping list by Marcia and I'd do it with a smile on my face! A totally delightful read.

Started and finished in one afternoon- I mean how could you put one of her books down? Loved, loved, loved him. He is playful, teasing, tender and serious all in the same breath. Did I mention the kissing scenes yet?!?!? Absolutely my kind of clean, lusty romance: Feb 28, Elizabeth Glaittli rated it it was amazing.

It's short so i read it in a few hours but it was really good. I loved it because it was like they were in love the whole time and it wasn't like they were in love but were afraid to tell each other like some of her other books. But soo good I loved it! Born for Thorton's Sake

Marcia Lynn McClure is one of the most talented writers that I've come across. I've read many historical romances, and she is by far one of the best. Born for Thorton's Sake was a very quick read for me; I simply couldn't put it down. I quickly fell in love with both Brock and Maria, and the premise for the book. This is a love story, pure and simple. Be prepared to smile in happiness and experience butterfly flutters in your tummy.

I highly recommend this book!!! Jan 29, Annalisa rated it really liked it. This is a MLM short story that can easily be read in a few hours. I loved how it sort of jumped right into the romance and had the couple working together to overcome trials rather than each battling their own pushing their love apart. I always enjoy a good period piece and this one did not disappoint. I read it twice because it was a refreshing light short read. Jul 08, Julie rated it really liked it Shelves: This book was a freebie from the kindle store. This is a short story, approximately pages long.

A historical romance involving an orphaned girl, Maria. Her father's good friend, Lord Thorton rescues Maria from cruel relatives. Thorton 's son Brock and his mother raise Maria after Lord Thorton 's death. When Maria approaches her sixteenth birthday, she is confronted with her true feelings for Brock Thorton. Their romance is made difficult by terms in Lord Thorton 's will. Marcia Lynn Mcclure This book was a freebie from the kindle store. Marcia Lynn Mcclure is dubbed the queen of kissing.

In this story anything beyond that might have seemed inappropriate. Sixteen year old girls back then were often married, but still putting a girl that young in a sexual situation wouldn't seem right. This book does have some strong innuendo though. However, for someone my age, it seemed a little too YA. Reading about sixteen to eighteen year old girl's romance isn't really up my ally. But, the story is sweet and has a bit of danger and bravery thrown in. A nice story both. Maybe a little too short for significant character development, but overall a B.

Oct 08, Cortney rated it it was amazing Shelves: Maria Castillo Holt, the only daughter of a valiant Lord and his Spanish beauty. I highly recommend this author to everyone. This was a very sweet historical romance that unfolds in front of the reader to reveal a heart warming and unforgettable HEA Story. Jul 18, Kathryn rated it really liked it.

Maria is an orphan at age 11 years old and isn't found by the Thorton family, who her father has given guardianship too until she is 13years old. Brock thornton is 6 years older, but they were promised to each other when they were quite young. They aren't to marry until Maria's 18th birthday.

She is told of the arranged marriage on her 16th birthday and must wait without the desired presence of Brock for a year because of their as always, I really liked this authors writing. She is told of the arranged marriage on her 16th birthday and must wait without the desired presence of Brock for a year because of their mutual attration for each other and propriety sake with living under the same roof. Both are very self conscienious. Brock because he is older and thinks this distasteful to Maria.

Maria because she thinks she is thought too young and not as beautiful as Brock would desire. On her 16th bday she becomes aquanted with Harrison, Brock older, disinherited brother. He has none of his brother's admirable qualities and has tried to kill off his brother repeatedly to get back his birthright by default. In one of Harrison's attempts, Brock is unable to be found, but fate steps in and bring Maria's love back to her through the help of "old Mother. Jun 09, Melody McBride rated it really liked it Shelves: This was pretty much the kind of book I've been wanting to read for a couple months - a period romantic note: I definitely enjoyed it!

A few things I didn't like: I wish there had been more character development. Considering her past, Maria is extremely pleasant, without any sort of sadness for her parents' death.

Also, it was just I me This was pretty much the kind of book I've been wanting to read for a couple months - a period romantic note: I mean, there were a couple things included that I wasn't really expecting, but everything pretty much happened like clockwork, in my mind.

Apr 11, Stacy rated it it was ok. This was my least favorite of this authors books. FYI, I've never given any of her books less than 4 stars. There was a lot of weirdness going on. The 9 year old and the 3 year old thing I know the author didn't mean anything by it but that was just taking it too far. McClure has an innocent heart at least from reading her books but I think the whole age thing was in bad taste. Another thing that I didn't like is that one of the MCs was absent for a lot of the story. That's just one of those things that annoy me I feel bad for 2 starring one of McClures books but this one just didn't work for me.

It was missing the magic that her other books have.

I can see how some readers have a hard time with the age difference between these two characters, especially since it is written as if Brock is quite a bit more mature than his actual age and Maria is sometimes written to seem younger than she is. But if you realize they are only 6 years apart and the time period they are set in, it's actually more believable. I'm reading my way through this author's books, this one was good but not my favorite so far. Some very mild innuendoes. An attack and mild fighting. Not squeaky clean but still I'd consider it a clean read.

The hero and heroine are so beautiful inside and out they make your heart ache - literally! As one of the other reviewers mentioned, I thought the plot twist in the story was a bit weak if you're comparing it to an epic, page historical romance, but that's not what this novella is. It's extremely romantic, it's beautiful, it makes your heart smile and your mind sigh with longing and yet also with satisfaction.

It is the type of story that takes you away for a short time to a wonderful fantasy of a love story and it's exactly the type of read I turn to when those epic, heavy romances are just too much for me to take on. I was lucky enough to download this when it was offered for free, I'm not a Prime member. But price is so subjective, and I'm still definitely in the camp of readers that wont pay full, mass-market paperback prices for the equivalent eBook version. This is a very lovely story and highly recommended for lover's of McClure's other historical and fairy tale works!

Clean historical romance, all the elements of a period drama, evil villain, dashing hero, strong heroine, wrongful imprisonment, orphan, rescue, fancy ball, happy ending. I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet escape for an afternoon. I love when you can hate the villain, love the hero, learn something, and want to be like the heroine. While she was young and immature, she still had great faith and strength.

I'd read it again. One person found this helpful. Another one of Marcia's novellas I wish was longer! However, I've learned whether it's a short novella or a novel you still get all the emotions and feel goods that make you greatly appreciate whatever you can get from Marcia. I love the plot! And some of the things she puts in there are just too good to relate and ruin the story. This is one of my favorite Marcia McClure books, it is a sweet and endering love story.

I just finished it for the 2nd time and loved it just as much as the first time. Quick and delightful read, plenty of sweet kisses and romance! I have know read this book for the 3rd time, something about it pulls me back to it time and time again. I know I will yet read it again. I think it's the way Marcia has developed and described this love that Maria and Brock have and the romantic way it all unfolds. It's one of those curl up in a blanket by the fire kind of reads. I loved this book! This is in my top three favorites of my Marcia collection! Yes her books are my guilty pleasure, and so I have almost all of them.

This one may even be my favorite one of hers, because anytime I need a sweet sweet love story, with enough suspense to keep it from getting boring, I fall back on this one.

Because I do love it! MLM's books, I like them. Some I prefer to others. This wasn't one of my ever favorites, but still the romantic tension clean and restrained between the H and h was exciting and passionate.
