Students have the opportunity to learn how America monitors potential threats, prepares for crisis, and plans for peace. The contest involves students in grades 9— They research, write, and develop a speech based on their interpretation of leadership with topics such as leadership in the world, its application to the free enterprise system, and what leadership means to them personally. This is a competition music festival for school jazz bands, show choirs, and jazz choirs. There are four levels of competition in each category based on school sizes official enrollment.
The festival runs for two days to accommodate the large number of festival entries. Superior performance group and soloist certificates plus 48 trophies are awarded. Its aim is to improve research and critical thinking skills through national debate competition. Since its start in , the Oratorical Contest is the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International.
The Spirit of Community program recognizes and celebrates volunteer community service performed by students in their own community.
