Significance is placed on HDL coding styles, synthesis and optimization, dynamic simulation, formal verification, DFT scan insertion, links to layout, physical synthesis, and static timing analysis. At each step, problems related to each phase of the design flow are identified, with solutions and work-around described in detail. In addition, crucial issues related to layout, which includes clock tree synthesis and back-end integration links to layout are also discussed at length. Furthermore, the book contains in-depth discussions on the basis of Synopsys technology libraries and HDL coding styles, targeted towards optimal synthesis solution.

This book describes a wide range of code transformations and mapping te- niques for programs described in high-level programming languages, most - tably imperative languages, to recon? In the ANS Forth standard was released and unleashed a wave of creativity among Forth compiler writers. Because the ANS standard, unlike the previous informal Forth standard, avoids specifying implementation details, implementers took full advantage. The result has been what I choose to call modern Forths, which are available from a range of sources both commercial and open-source.
Continuations can be used to compile most programming languages. The method is illustrated in a compiler for the programming language Standard ML. Prior knowledge of ML, however, is not necessary, as the author carefully explains each concept as it arises. This is the first book to show how concepts from the theory of programming languages can be applied to the production of practical optimizing compilers for modern languages like ML.
All the details of compiling are covered, including the interface to a runtime system and garbage collector. Different flows and techniques were described along with helpful scripts to guide the user in performing successful synthesis, placement and scan chain ordering.
Few problems associated with PhyC were also discussed. Although in time these problem will most certainly be corrected. Still it is the intent of this chapter to make readers aware of these issues in case they are using this version of PhyC. Several new add-ons to Physical Compiler have recently been announced the Clock Tree Compiler and the Route Compiler that will enhance the capability of this tool enormously. These add-ons have been mentioned in this Chapter, however the usage and operation have not been described due to the unavailability of these options at the time of writing this book.
Starting from a brief description and purpose of some of the tools provided by Synopsys, the chapter covered the Synopsys environment that included examples of startup files needed for PhyC, DC and PT, followed by the concepts of Objects, Variables and Attributes. A brief introduction was also provided for the find command and its usefulness.

Different Synopsys formats were discussed along with Design entry methods. Finally, the chapter concluded by describing some of the most useful directives used by DC for the purpose of hiding simulation only constructs. Finally a book that talks about the real-time application of the Synopsys tools to handle complex ASIC designs.

Using Synopsys Design Compiler. This book offers nothing extra from Synopsys On-Line Documentation. It is simply over overpriced.
