When I came across 'Some Like 'em Thick" I was so excited to find a story with thick women as the central characters. Unfortunately, the story needs a little help in terms of keeping sub-plots evolving smoothly. For example, there's the relationship between Irie and Kennedy, the daughter she gave up for adoption. The author starts off great introducing the relationship, but it fizzes out by not delving further into how Kennedy's identity crises moves along or showing more of her home life with her adopted Caucasian parents, who love her dearly.

Oasis, Salvatrice and Irie are good friends who are dealing with self-image issues revolving around being thick women and figuring out their relationships or lack of one with men. It's enlightening to read how each woman had a different perspective about her beauty when it comes to being thick. Oasis, the most outgoing of the three, uses sex to downplay her insecurities and to continue running from a good man.

Salvatrice, dealing with the remnants of a ego-destroying marriage and subsequent divorce, has trouble speaking up for herself and determining who she is as a person and her worth as a woman. Irie, who lived a sheltered life with her parents and finally moves out at age 25, is figuring out how to live life on her own and what she really needs out of it. They each find wonderful, strong, caring men; but must learn to love themselves in order for the relationships to stay healthy and progress.

I wish the author had spent some more time sharing them working through their issues.

I did enjoy the way the author made sure readers could understand why each woman thought and acted the way she did. This story is worth a read, but can be frustrating at times, which can be a good thing in a way. One person found this helpful.

This books 3 stories or 3 different P. How each women had their own strengths and weaknesses, but towards the end beans was being spilled, apologies given, and love and honor being fulfilled.     Others use dark eyeshadow and a small slanted brush to fill in eyebrows. The effect is really natural-looking and super pretty. Thick full eyebrows are really gorgeous and youthful. They add so much dimension to your face. Think about it, would Brooke Shields or Cara Delevingne be who they are without those eyebrows?
