The Commander's Desire : Jennette Green :

Simply stated, I loved this book. The maid found none on my person. Perhaps that is because I have none. Clothes with no holes for pockets. Clothes that provide no access to the blade at your thigh.

She cried out in fear and horrified humiliation. He strode silently through the halls. She squeezed her eyes shut, unwilling to see the others witnessing her humiliation. Put me down at once! She bit her lip, trying to stop the weak tears of a woman, not a warrior.

She sniffed and finally stopped struggling, and hung down his back. His belt about his jerkin was within reach. If only she could loose it, she could cinch it around his massive neck! Perhaps if she pretended submission he would return her to her feet. You have none of the finer qualities I require in a husband! He did kill her beloved eldest brother, after all. By offering herself in marriage to the enemy king—called the Prince—under the guise of peace, she puts herself in proximity to the cunning murderer. Right from the get-go, the conniving prince changes the terms of the agreement. Elwytha will not marry him , she will marry the Commander, the man she was sent to destroy.

A beast-like mass of muscle and might with a gnarly scar above one eye and a disturbingly crooked nose, the Commander strikes fear into her warrior heart. Unfortunately he falls quite in love with her. But what surprises her the most: The Commander's Desire is a thrilling, sensual historical romance novel, and Jennette Green is a wonderful, talented author. The author takes us back in time to AD and spins us a romantic tale about an honorable warrior princess named Elwytha who is torn between her need to avenge her family, and the love she feels for the enemy she's sworn to kill.

The hero in the st The Commander's Desire is a thrilling, sensual historical romance novel, and Jennette Green is a wonderful, talented author. The hero in the story is my "perfect hero", and he stayed on my mind long after I had finished the story. And that's not something I can say about every romance book.

The idea of a warrior maiden getting revenge for her brothers murder by becoming the murderers bride and trying to kill him, awesome! Unfortunately the execution was lacking and there were things that bothered me, but they didn't bother me enough to stop reading. The book was just fun to read and I overlooked a lot of the other stuff and just enjoyed the tension and romance between the main characters, because after all that is what I wanted from this book.

So if y Overall this was a good story. So if you don't mind writing glitches, drawn out arguments that are not necessary and repetition of characters feelings to get to a sweet, romantic love story this is your book. This book is clean for a "Romance Novel" there is sex, after marriage, but it is not detailed. If you are a fan of theirs you'll love this. Mar 29, Chrissy rated it liked it.

  • I loved the first half. But after that I got frustrated with the main character. I wish she would just do what she thought was right and not whine so much. And I wish she was in the fight at the end, to show off her fighting skills and all that. And the love scenes were too much for me. I know they were married and it wasn't graphic, but still too much for my taste.

I like it when they get married, he carries her across the threshold, and then he closes the door and I am left outside. Some passionate kisses and fade into black scenes between a married couple, nothing graphic. View all 6 comments. Nov 18, Cindy rated it it was amazing Shelves: I really liked it, very well done.

I mean, the plot is gripping enough? What is not to like? THe author seemed to forgot that the characters or rather, the MAIN character is the life of the book. The heroine in this book was the most stupid, shallow-minded female i have ever encountered. She is way way way over her head and acts like a spoiled bitch most of the time.

The Commander’s Desire Romance Book Excerpt

I rarely use the word bitch, but i cannot find anything more suitable than that to describe our heroine. I despise her, everything she says grates my skin and makes me grit my teeth. I want to throttle her or smash her head with a baseball bat. She is blided by revenge BUT, really really blinded she cannot see anything else. She cannot see that her stupid ass of a brother is using her, that the commander adores her. And the she had the NERVE to get mad when she is accused of treason when she knows she is indeed one!

She is hateful and spiteful. She admitted they are enemy even without her brother's murder, frankly i think she is just looking for reasons to get angry and the author thinks she's doing a great job by keeping people interested with the heroines tantrums! Well that did not work cause guess what?

I just wanna throw this book out of the window. THe commander was oh so patient and nice and caring but even that isn't enough to save me from hating this. THERE isn't a single chapter or page in the book where the heroine insults or does not get mad. Feb 08, Deborah rated it it was amazing. I read this book a while back and just realized I never reveiwed it. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the tention and I loved how their relationship grew. I'm not giving any spoilers, but I think if she just took a leap of faith, the ending would have been better, but still a good book to read and would recommend it to historical fiction romance lovers! Oct 09, Tammie rated it really liked it Shelves: I came across this book while I was searching for fantasy type books.

When I first read the title I thought surly it was one of those bodice rippers and it wouldn't be for me. But since it popped up in my fantasy search I took a closer look at it. I started this one night before I went to sleep and to my surprise I was completely pulled into the story from the beginning and had to finally make myself put it down at 2: While I did get tired of the use of the words verily, anon, and mayhap, and there were times I wanted to slap some sense into the main character, it was overall a satisfying romance read.

The romantic scenes were written tastefully, but at the same time sensual just without all the bodice ripping and unneeded details. There were some fun moments as well, that I couldn't help but giggle at when Elwytha is being thwarted by the commander at every turn. What I enjoyed most about it was that the love interest was not the stereotypical perfectly handsome male. There were lovely messages in the book about the heart, mind, honor, and trust.

Jul 26, Kimterest rated it it was ok. The arguing and mistrust seemed like it was non-stop, down to the last two pages.

    See a Problem?

In a romance novel I don't mind a little angst, as long as there is a strong resolution that rewards me for reading through the frustrating conflict. There was no afterglow when I was done reading. There was barely a catharsis. In fact when I finished I was still so frustrated that I went on and on to my husband fo Final feeling: In fact when I finished I was still so frustrated that I went on and on to my husband for at least twenty minutes about how irritating the book was. Fortunately, I was at least keeping him awake at the wheel with my ranting.

I applaud the author's ability to make me feel a wealth of emotions as strongly as I did. Nevertheless my intense dislike of the characters and plot lead me to give this one a 2 stars.

Fun, clean, witty and just an overall good love story! Jun 05, Angie Cornelison rated it it was amazing Shelves: I loved the characters and the story.

Medieval romance is the best! You know it's good when you can't put it down. Mar 14, Suzy rated it liked it Shelves: I would like to be more generous because the hero is such a lovely man, so patient and Honorable. But I felt I had to knock off a couple of stars because the heroine is sadly a bit dim, no doubt that is why the devious Richard the heroines brother has chosen Elwytha as his sacrificial lamb. She takes ages to see she was sent on a suicide mission! It was obvious to the reader from the start.

Her brother clearly wants to rid himself of a potential rival to his throne and if he can kill his enemies great General at the same time. Elwytha believes the marriage is a ruse to hide an assassination attempt, when in fact it is much more than this. Elwytha should have seen from the start that she was on a suicide mission and secondly when her conniving brother writes a letter to her that is extraordinarily damaging to her, one that is bound to be read by their enemies before she sees it, she should have realised her brother was trying to force their hand to give him an excuse for any act of vengeance he resorted to in return.

Apart from my above niggles I thought the romance was sweet and there is occasional gentle humor.
