One person found this helpful. Fun chapter reading for first and second and maybe, third-graders! I read these as a child and now buy them for my children. They are perfect for new readers, K-2, and my kids enjoy them. FOr us its a nice introduction to chapter books. Library Binding Verified Purchase. Books ordered for our library are always expected to be excellent and teach something, this book fits that criteria and the kids will love it.

I started reading a chapter a day with the Candy Corn book before Thanksgiving. This series has been a wonderful way to get early readers interested in books. The students are learning the names of the community in the Kids of Polk Street School and can't wait for the next chapter, then the next book.
Bought each one of my girls books for VDay. Very pleased with the overall purchase. Shipped on time and got it for the big day. A Kid's Review 5. This story is about a girl named Emily and her teacher Mrs. Her class is playing in the snow. There are two characters named Emily and Sherri that don't like each other.
Rooney wasn't there is because she took a couple days off.

Rooney found a subsitute, her name was Mrs. Vincent ,and Emily really wants to meet her , and she wants to dress nice for that day so that she will like her and Sherri copied Emily with the idea she had. Then Emily got mad,then Emily was in charge because Mrs. Vincent put her in charge while shes going to get something. So Emily caught Sherri playing around with Richard and Emily put Sherrie's name on the board , and Sherri just ignored and didn't listen and just kept talking then when Mrs.
Vincent returned and she looked at whose name was on the board. Vincent said ''Thank you Emily for keeping an eye on the class''. The next day after school Emily, Sherri and Mrs.
Vincent were making a card for Mrs. Rooney, but they ran out of paper so Mrs. Vincent went to get some more paper ,as she left Emily and Sherri , Then they started to talk to each other ,and they decided to be friends again. Vincent came back with paper she was happy Emily and Sherri became friends again. The next day Mrs. Rooney returned and she got Emily's valentina card and she was pleased to get a card from Emily. When it was Valentines day it was time to get all the cards, and pass them out to everyone and Emily made a card a special card for Sherri Dent.
I enjoyed reading this book because it talks about Valentines Day.

In this installment of "Kids at Polk Street School", the focal point is on Richard; afraid of climbing ropes. Giff successfully emphasizes with a common fear of elementary students--I never scrounged up the courage to climb the ropes at my elementary school--and I may go back some day to do so.
While I see where Giff is coming from; points off for the "cliche" of bad school lunches, and mean substitute teachers. Still, the series is decent for those in grades See all 12 reviews.
