This debut novel marks a start of a promising career. Nov 20, Liz Fichera rated it it was amazing. What a treat of a book! I loved the pace and the layers of this mystery. The story kept me guessing till the final pages, unraveling slowly and cleverly, as a new wrinkle or plot twist was introduced. And the main character, Tai Randolph, pretty much won me over from the first pages--she was funny, spunky, and courageous. I also adored her partner, Trey Seaver. Trey was not your typical love interest either. He was believably flawed and as layered as Tai. I adored everything about him, including What a treat of a book!

I adored everything about him, including his interactions and building relationship with Tai. I understand that there is a Book 2 in the works. Suffice it to say that I will be one of the first in line when it releases. Jun 20, Tammy rated it really liked it. This was a very intriguing book that I just happened across. She was quite a gal with lots of pluck. When she discovers a a dead body she has the usual reaction of getting sick. Then she is thrown into her brothers world of high society people who are not what they seem. Also he hires a firm who sends Trey to watch over her.

He is a different guy and as you read the book you find out how different and why. They work together trying to find out how and why Eliza was murdered and they This was a very intriguing book that I just happened across. They work together trying to find out how and why Eliza was murdered and they have some crazy things happen to them. I did laugh a few times hearing Tia talk and relate to people, I really enjoyed this one and am getting the next in the series Aug 08, Elizabeth rated it it was ok. There needs to be a limit to authors turning their characters into sleuths for no good reason.

In this first of a series of books, Tai Randoph finds a dead woman in a car across the street from her brother's house. Tai recently moved in with her brother when they inherited a gun shop from their uncle. Tai's former occupation was ghost tour host so of course she's eminently qualified to search for the killer of a woman she never met. The best things about this book were the title and a supporting There needs to be a limit to authors turning their characters into sleuths for no good reason. The best things about this book were the title and a supporting character who suffered brain damage so he thinks and acts differently.

Dec 18, April rated it it was ok Shelves: I get the heroine falling for the hunky but brain damaged man I liked the setup For me, there was something missing. Jan 15, Kathleen Smith rated it really liked it. Fast-paced plot, snappy dialog, engaging characters--I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Of special note is the very intriguing and very sexy character of Trey Seaver, whose memories, personality, and very identity are compromised by the traumatic brain injury he suffered years ago.

The book ended at exactly the right moment in Trey and Tai's relationship, and I look forward eagerly to learning how it continues to develop in the next book of the series. Jan 21, Melanie rated it it was ok Shelves: There was really nothing bad about this book, but there wasn't anything new, either. I feel like I've read this book about five times: Plucky girl with unusual job and odd name gets a tiny bit involved in murder case and instead of staying away like a sensible person, feels a compulsion to solve the case.

It just felt kind of stale.

Falls for guys with no emotions. Mar 01, Sara Barrios rated it it was ok. I thought the story was pretty boring. She has a lot of characters but doesn't develop them well.

I did not feel a connection with any of the main characters. I was just ready for the book to end. Aug 24, Fran rated it it was amazing.

Best Book I have ever read. Jan 14, Elizabeth rated it liked it. Sep 06, Linda rated it it was ok. This would be a good book to take on vacation, if female, and planning on spending time sitting by the pool or on a sandy beach. A very easy read dangerously bordering on chick-lit. Exactly what was it? Some kind of high end personal security for hire but details were very sketchy. I do not even know why t This would be a good book to take on vacation, if female, and planning on spending time sitting by the pool or on a sandy beach.

Get Inspired. Get Motivated.

I do not even know why the Adams senatorial candidate had a role in the book since he had nothing at all to do with the story. I think this author has potential but is unlikely to ever win an Edgar Award. Aug 05, Lisa rated it liked it. Way too many characters. The storyline was intriguing though. Sep 06, Pianogirl rated it really liked it.

They compared it to Stephanie Plum - there is not humor in this book so I wouldn't compare Tia to Stephanie but it is still a whodunit mystery. It was a great series. May 15, Maren rated it liked it. Three and a half stars. Intriguing premise and a pretty solid mystery. Very gun-toting Southern, though, and I did a lot of mental eye rolls with the amateur unofficial seluthing that was going on. Sep 28, Catherine rated it liked it. Bought this for a beach read, but it was a little more enticing than that. Page turner You'll never see it coming.

I couldn't put this book down. Very easy to visualize each character. You'll still never guess who did it!! Mar 17, Margaret S. Hooked me Tina Whittle has taken the mystery genre and turned it on it's edge by creating very believable, different 'outside the box' leads that I can't wait to learn more about.

Good read Lots of twists and turns with just a touch of a budding romance.

See a Problem?

Tia is a strong, no nonsense woman that will be interesting to follow. Tina Whittle has written a very good mystery novel, and behind all the mystery and there are several blooms a chance for romance. Tia, Whittle's heroine, moves to Atlanta, after a break-up and after inheriting a small gun shop with her brother Eric. She stays at Eric's house and he takes off on a previously scheduled seminar. Then all he'll breaks loose As a mystery author Whittle is very good: No obvious clues for the reader as Tia tries to figure things out.

Mar 14, Victor Gentile rated it it was amazing. From the back cover: Even worse, her supposedly respectable brother begins behaving in decidedly non-innocent ways, like fleeing to the Bahamas and leaving her with both a homicide in her lap and the pointed suspicions of the Atlanta PD directed her way. Suddenly, she has to worry about clearing her own name, not just that of her wayward sibling. Complicating her search for answers is Trey Seaver, field agent for Phoenix, an exclusive corporate security firm hired to investigate the crime.

Description

Still in recovery from the car accident that left him cognitively and emotionally damaged, Trey has constructed a world of certainty and routine. Potential suspects abound, including violent stalkers, vengeful sisters, and a paparazzo with a taste for meth. This is a great way to start a mystery series and a great character to start with.

Tai is not a Private Investigator, she is not a lawyer, matter of fact she is not any of those professions we have come to identify with mysteries. I suppose it is this not identifying that sets her, not only apart, but up for the challenge. What would you do if you came home one day and found a murdered person in the driveway? Now she has to get involved to clear her name with the police department because they think she did it. This is quite a relationship as both of them are damaged characters. Danger, excitement and murder all figure into this highly complicated plot.

I am so glad I found Ms. Whittle and am so looking forward to the next book in this series. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Poisoned Pen Press. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Jan 28, Annmarie rated it liked it Shelves: I read an advance reader's copy of this, later edits of the book might occur. Tai has just moved from Savannah to Atlanta after co-inheriting her uncle's gun shop, and promptly finds a dead young woman slumped over in a car parked in front of Tai's older brother's house. Tai's brother is away at a work seminar in the Bahamas, and had recent contact with the dead woman, so the police are looking in his direction.

When her brother hires a security firm to protect Tai and to investigate the murder I read an advance reader's copy of this, later edits of the book might occur. When her brother hires a security firm to protect Tai and to investigate the murder I think , she impulsively catapults herself into also investigating the murder, finagling the police and security firm agents to further her goals.

STUPID PEOPLE DOING DANGEROUS THINGS

The handsome security agent assigned to her, former cop Trey Seaver, is a very appealing character; he is very intelligent and can focus with laser intensity and determine when people are lying, but suffered a traumatic brain injury and has very black and white responses according to a strict code of ethics and can't decipher other's emotions very well. I enjoyed the depiction of Tai's quirky personality, impulsiveness, boldness and wry wit, the development of Trey's character and the relationships between them and other characters.

But, I found the story very convoluted - I'm still not sure what really happened - and I didn't find Tai's motivations believable. Maybe I just wasn't reading carefully enough. But, she has no background related to investigating was a caretaker for her mom, and a tour guide , the police really don't seem to think her brother committed the murder, so you'd think she might leave detective work to, you know, the police or this high end security firm her wealthy brother hired.

Plus she boldly rifles through everyone's files, steals evidence from the firm, lies to everyone to further her investigating, all without any explanations for these ethical character flaws. She wasn't raised by sociopaths, far as I can tell. If her motivation was supposed to be truth, justice, and righteous justice for the dead woman, it really didn't come across well. So, 3 stars for appealing characters, relationship building amongst them, and for decent writing; 1.

Feb 19, Debbie West rated it liked it. This is a good storyline. But a couple of things bothered me, such as.. Thai went from not smoking or cursing to doing both. She inherited a gun shop but never opened the store. The ending left me wondering a few things, not about the murders but about the personal relationship at the end. Read more Read less.
