One thing I didn't really love was Wrath's tendency to order, rather than request when talking to Verity. It almost had a feeling that he was treating her as a slave and didn't give her a lot of choice. He even gets pretty upset when she doesn't want to have sex with him, though he does respect it. It bothered me a lot that he did this, but this was later softened quite a bit when the heroine acknowledged that he only ordered her when he was concerned for her Added to the romance, which is quite good, is the suspense plot which thickens here.

The King's Warrior

Despite the king's attempts to placate the rebelling tribes, some Picts are still fighting back and now they are joined by Northmen. So finding out who the leader in this is becomes pretty important.

I'm curious to find out. Jun 15, Rhonda rated it it was amazing. Donna Fletcher has the amazing rare talent to capture the reader from the first page and hold them there until the last paragraph is read. I have placed this author on my auto buy, read, and reread, permanent keeper shelf, and added to my favorite treasure list.

This book is a complete romance filled with strong warriors, a land of unrest, unexpected hot, steamy passion, disagreements, mystery, laughter, tenderness, strength, and eventually trust beyond question. One day he finds a lady in a snowdrift, and not knowing what to do with her, is made responsible for her. Verity, a woman with visions and too many secrets and her sister had been kidnapped. She escaped and finally made it to her homeland, which she had thought never to see again. The fierce Pict warrior joins Verity in her search for her sister.

Her visions will prove these two were destined to be together, but although many obstacles stand in their way, they find a love that cannot be denied. They will read the last page, sigh, and want to start over from page one, or reach for another book by the same author.

I highly recommend this book and anything else written by Donna Fletcher. Mar 20, MG rated it it was amazing Shelves: I read all 3 in this series in a weekend. Really quick, fun reads - takes you away to another time and place. Complex characters, but in a good way if that makes sense , and a heavy dose of steamy fun. Dec 27, Becky rated it it was amazing. Great book I am beginning to love Donna Fletcher's books. This is the third book of hers this week, and she keeps me engaged til the end.

Each book builds naturally with the hero and heroine and the love story is emotional and believable. Highly recommend this book! May 21, Karolyne rated it it was amazing Shelves: Almost as good as The Kings Executioner but still a 5 star read. May 18, Vanessa rated it liked it Shelves: Read the first 2 books for the 3rd book If you know what I mean ;3.

Apr 21, sandy forguson rated it it was amazing. Oct 05, Megan rated it it was amazing. Full disclosure, I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review I really enjoyed the first book, however I typically have lower expectations for the middle book. The middle book is filler… So.. I could not put it down. There is adventure, there is intrigue, who is causing the unrest in PictLands, and why are the Northerners making themselves known?

There is of course a lot of romance. I was not thrilled with the character of Wrath in the first book, but I really like him now. And Veritas as a female lead. She is stronger than she thinks, she is determined and she completely keeps Wrath on his toes. This book enhances the first story while being its own. I highly recommend this book Nov 05, Tracy Emro rated it really liked it.

IMO - Not as good as the first book. I liked this book, but I didn't love it. This book had several similarities to the first book - the primary one being the hero telling the heroine to stay put and her taking off and needing to be rescued. This book features Wrath, the king's warrior and Verity, a woman Wrath finds in a snowbank and seems to know him. This scene was actually one of the reasons that I didn't love this book.

Wrath is shocked that the woman seems to know him, but he do 3. Wrath is shocked that the woman seems to know him, but he doesn't know who she is - but then thinks he has "mated" with a lot of women and can't remember all of them. Verity is looking for her sister and she has had visions of Wrath helping her. She begs him to help her and he reluctantly agrees. Once the king gets involved and joins them in marriage - things start moving along at a quick pace. Wrath and Verity begin to grow closer and form a bond - but Verity has secrets and Wrath fights his feelings believing they will make him weak.

Something major is brewing and Wrath and Verity are smack dab in the middle of the action. This book was well written, moved at a fast pace, has steamy love scenes, a lot of suspenseful moments and a happy ending. But it also has a hero who sleeps with another woman thankfully off page after he meets the heroine, has many former lovers and has more than one woman from his past pop up and cause problems with him and Verity.

I would have liked a bit more information on how Verity ended up with the Northmen, but I have a feeling that will be addressed in the next book. This is the second book in the series, but could easily be a stand alone title. Sep 30, Diane rated it it was amazing. The second novel in the Pict King series does not disappoint. As the King searches for those who betray him in an attempt to overthrow his rule he sends his most trusted and fiercest warrior to reassure tribes. On one such journey Wrath finds himself in a snowstorm with his men on the way back to the stronghold.

As they are traveling he comes across a woman almost dead as she has been out in the weather with out shelter. As he makes his way back home he brings the woman with him. Little does he The second novel in the Pict King series does not disappoint. Little does he know that it will be a decision that will change the course of his life. One thing he cannot figure out is how she knows his name and he is sure he has never met here. Verity and her sister got separated fleeing the tyrannical rule of Ulric, the son of the leader of the Northmen. As she is searching she finds herself caught in a fierce storm.

When she finds comes to after being rescued, it is to her surprise that the man from her visions has found her. But how much does he know or realize? She cannot let him find out about her visions for fear of what would happen to her. When the two are thrown together due to the King's decree, they find that they cannot fight the desire and longing between them. As the two become closer it is undeniable that they are in love. But with the Northmen roaming the countryside looking for her and her sister. Will they ever be truly safe. The king and Wrath have vowed to protect them, but no one has up to this point.

Could it be safe to trust them? Great read, could be read as a stand alone novel, but in my opinion is a great addition to the first one. I cannot wait to she who brings mighty King Talon to his knees, I hope however it is Hemera Verity's sister. Sep 15, Maria Dariotis rated it it was amazing. While escaping she and her sister are separated so she must get to Wrath more than ever now. When Wrath finds Verity almost dead in the frozen snow he takes her back home with him where his friend, King Talon, appoints Wrath responsible for her until he has the answers about who she is and where she comes from.

He tries patience to win her trust but she is afraid to trust him. With the enemy hot on her trail she wants to find her sister and wonders if she should tell Wrath everything.

When the King steps in and changes their relationship, the sparks fly as they both try to fight the feelings that are between them. Donna Fletcher is a genius when it comes to story telling. She keeps her readers on the edge of their seat as they read, waiting to find out what secrets are being kept, who and what the bad guys are up to and who will ultimately win in the end. This was a well-written story; it had suspense, passion, humor, good friends and bad guys.

She brings it all together very nicely at the end. This is the second in this series and for me I liked this story better than the first one, even though the first book was a great story also, this one is my favorite of the two. I received an ARC for an honest review. Oct 20, April rated it it was amazing Shelves: What an amazing and impressive series! Fletcher will have readers entranced and captivated.
