Completely revised and expanded brand-new edition of Volume I, the first book in the Whiskey poetry trilogy.

Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel, Vol. It is a testament to choosing to love yourself, even if it means heartbreak. Originally released in , this re-rerelease packs the same punch as the first version, but makes an even greater connection with the soul of the reader. Each piece has been re-seen and revamped to reflect the author's continuing journey with his partner, Samantha King, without whom this book would not exist.

Samantha is the muse, the "she" the writer speaks of; she is every woman who has felt like she wasn't good enough, and every woman who struggles to find love. Sin uses poetry to share his accounts of heartbreak and unhealthy relationships.

He speaks of his muse, who is every woman who has struggled to find love and felt like she wasn't worthy of it. Added to basket. Wild Embers. Nikita Gill. Milk and Honey.

The fact that this is a publishing success makes the publishing world so much more inaccessible for women and not straight people who actually write anything that means something. But there's little to no structure, wordplay, imagery, metaphor. How, then, is this If I could give this less than a single star, I would. How, then, is this poetry? If you liked it, okay. But it shouldn't have been marked or marketed as poetry. It's shallow food for thought at best, and made me, a writer of poetry, rage and scoff at worst. In short, I hated this. Call it being scarred in high school from too many Robert Frost analysis essays or Emily Dickens memorization quizzes, I just don't like it.

Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel I

Never have. But "this is the part of the book where shit gets a bit weird you're reading this to yourself without the realization that I am now talking to you directly, until now repeat after me and this more than once if you need to I am grand I am powerful I am electric I am incredible I will survive this I will be fine" I have never been a lover of poetry.

But R. Sin began popping up all over my Pinterest feed a while ago, and I really loved his writing. It's almost entirely free verse, and it packs an emotional punch. I imagine that if I were going through a hard breakup or perhaps even a tragedy, his words would speak to me even more. As it is, his poems are short but full of life. It took me an hour and a half to get through the entire book. I've never had an author write to me before, and I really enjoyed it. This book was very empowering and inspiring. I recommend it if only for something to read on the bus. Mar 12, Elvina Zafril rated it really liked it.

I felt the pain. Some of the poems are relatable to me. Thanks for this. I will say that some of the poems are really nice, those being the very few that aren't about women. And there are VERY few that aren't. But for the vast majority of poems in this book that are about women, it's painfully obvious that this was written by a 21st century man. Men who claim to respect women, who say they are so in touch with their feminine side, who really understand the struggles of women.

Men who think they know how women feel, how they want to feel, want to be treated, etc.

Like it was a guideline that, if followed correctly, would surely get you laid. All this self-righteous bullshit about still loving a broken woman, as if doing so makes him a saint. Congratulations for being capable of loving someone who has been broken down by so many men in the past, I'm sure you're really proud of yourself.

Would you like a fucking medal? A pat on the back for being a decent human being?

Women do not need men to heal their wounds. Women do not need men to make them strong. Women do not need men to have a voice.

See a Problem?

Women do not need men to get back on their feet. Nov 28, Guille rated it it was amazing Shelves: poetry. I looooved this!

However, I gave it 3 out of 5 because some of its poems were helpful and relieving like the ones talking about loving ourselves first in order to find our true love and coping with our loneliness since the loneliness of being with the wrong person is worse than being alone.

Also, some of them gave hope to the readers that they will find who they deserve Short, modern poems about relationships. Also, some of them gave hope to the readers that they will find who they deserve to be and sometimes people really need to hear this kind of things. Although many people dislike "tumblr quotes" I like them, I love finding random relatable quotes online so when I stumbled upon R.

H Sin's Instagram I was happy to see he had published a few books. I gave this book 3 stars because although I liked it, a lot of things seemed repeated. I also only had a handful of poems that I really liked. I did like the book and I will be purchasing the second book but I feel like this book could have been longer or at least the poems could have been longer, Although many people dislike "tumblr quotes" I like them, I love finding random relatable quotes online so when I stumbled upon R.

I did like the book and I will be purchasing the second book but I feel like this book could have been longer or at least the poems could have been longer, because they are so short they feel more like quotes then actual poems. Dec 31, Annelie rated it really liked it Shelves: own-paper-back.
