Kendall's use of 'Pharisee' as a derogatory term blossoms into a fascinating exchange in which the two men openly discuss the basic tenets of their respective faiths. They explore the common ground that these two related religions share, and discover the fundamental differences that set them apart. This groundbreaking publication is a rare opportunity to read the heartfelt correspondence of two prolific religious leaders, both acclaimed theologians, as they seek to both vigorously defend their own beliefs and allow themselves to be challenged by the claims of the other.

As the discussion continues we see mutual respect grow and a strong friendship forged before the relationship is inevitably tested as they reach points of seemingly irreconcilable difference. Is it possible for Christianity and Judaism to proactively co-exist when the bedrock of one denies the rationale of the other?

This dignified book poses such difficult questions whilst offering greater understanding and hope for the future. Kendall was for 25 years Minister of Westminster Chapel in London, and now lives in Florida, from where he continues his career as a popular Christian preacher and writer. This is absolutely brilliant. It will be one of the best books ever on Jewish Christian relations. It is the real thing, simply excellent.

As an act of penance, solidarity and hope, actor and musician Justin Butcher - along with ten other companions for the full route, plus another hundred joining him for various stretches along the way - walked from London to Jerusalem. This book is the record of his journey: It's less of a travel guide to walking across Europe and more an exploration of the many strands radiating from the Holy Land and its narrative, weaving paths across place and history, through the lives of Justin's fellow-walkers - and, of course, his own life.

Between the route itinerary and the themes of Balfour and Christian Zionism, Weizmann and cordite, colonialism, Jerusalem Syndrome and Desert spirituality, Justin charts a chronicle of serendipity: Nicky Gumbel, pioneer of Alpha - a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith - and vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton in Kensington, London, aids readers following the Bible in one year programme to understand the Scriptures better.

The Christian and the Pharisee: Two Outspoken Religious Leaders Debate the Road to Heaven

Drawing out a theme for each day from the designated Bible readings, Gumbel's exegetical writings on the Proverbs, Psalms and New and Old Testament excerpts are packed with insight, wisdom and application. These accompanying reading notes will enhance the study of anyone reading the Bible in One Year each day. This collection combines some of Eugene Peterson's landmark Spiritual Theology series: Eugene Peterson's Spiritual Theology series provides a completely fresh evaluation of Christian Spirituality, past, present and future. The best-selling author of THE MESSAGE draws on the very latest scholarship and understanding of biblical revelation, and will represent the most thorough and significant work on contemporary Christian Spirituality by an evangelical author.

Most writings in the field of spiritual theology represent mere dabblings.

The more significant endeavours are impenetrably academic. Petrson's masterwork, which has been years in the making, is designed for those who are comfortable with being stretched, as well as pastors, academics and lay leaders. For both academic and serious lay audiences; foundational reading for the twenty-first century church.

This is the achievement of a masterly, first-rate historian' New York Times Book Review'It's a brilliantly orchestrated book, wonderfully rich in detail, but at the same time roaring along at a heart-thumping pace It is a tale of human drama and unbearable tension in which courage, comradeship, fanaticism, incompetence and luck all play their part. The legacy of this mission is still felt today in the way Western governments respond to terrorist blackmail. Codenamed Thunderbolt, the operation carried huge risks. The flight was a challenge: On the ground, the Israeli commandos had just three minutes to carry out their mission.

So much could have gone wrong: Both would have been a human and a PR catastrophe. Now, with the mission largely forgotten or even unknown to many, Saul David gives the first comprehensive account of Operation Thunderbolt using classified documents from archives in four countries and interviews with key participants, including Israeli soldiers and politicians, hostages, a member of the Kenyan government and a former terrorist. Both a thrilling page-turner and a major piece of historical detective work, Operation Thunderbolt shows how the outcome of Israel's most famous military operation depended on secret diplomacy, courage and luck-and was in the balance right up to the very last moment.

Desmond Alexander, Dr Richard S. Hess, Dr Douglas J. To further aid the readers' understanding of the Bible, also included are full-colour maps, charts, photos and diagrams. Seeking Aliveness is a repurposing of this material for use by individuals, breaking up the text into daily devotions, along with the original suggested Bible readings and with a prayer, thought or action point for each day. Brian's original writing is transformed beautifully into a daily read, for admirers of the original book as well as a new audience. In this wonderful, warm account of one man and his canine companions, Jonathan shares his inability to resist the big, brown-eyed look which says, 'I'll melt your heart if you even think of going out without me', and the security he feels on a twenty-mile trek across the bleak Scottish Highlands with not a soul for a friend but his border collie.

Tim Keller has given us such a book Here is an extremely readable book founded on sound scholarship This is the most practical and inspirational book on preaching that I have read for years! I would recommend that this book be placed in the hand of the preaching veteran and novice, and should be found in the homiletic section of all theological colleges.

In this book he shares his wisdom on communicating the Christian faith from the pulpit as well as from the coffee shop. Most Christians - including pastors - struggle to talk about their faith in a way that applies the power of the Christian gospel to change people's lives. Timothy Keller is known for his insightful, down-to-earth sermons and talks that help people understand themselves, encounter Jesus and apply the Bible to their lives. In this accessible guide for pastors and laypeople alike, Keller helps readers learn to present the Christian message of grace in a more engaging, passionate and compassionate way.

The Scandal of Christianity. Out of the Comfort Zone: Is Your God Too Nice? Achieving God's Greatest Challenge. This is absolute gold dust. I have never read anything like it before. As a Christian leader with a Jewish family background, and a great love for Jewish people and Jewish roots, I shall treasure and promote widely this amazing volume. It is the real thing, simply excellent.

The Christian and the Pharisee - R T Kendall, David Rosen - Häftad () | Bokus

Judaism and Christianity have for centuries been divided by the same holy scriptures. Anyone seeking to understand the chasm, and how to bridge it, should start by reading this erudite, civilised and charming debate between a Christian pastor and a 'Pharisee' rabbi. Their exchange of letters not only explains the common roots of two great religions in ancient Palestine, but also illuminates the today's conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

A fascinating book of dialogue between a leading preacher and one of the most famous rabbis of our time. No punches are pulled, no fundamental question of faith is avoided - but with humour, kindness, respect and love, fundamental issues of religion are discussed and probed.

A timely and amazing book. Kendall is a Christian writer, speaker and teacher who was Minister of Westminster Chapel in London for twenty-five years.
