Very down to earth. Now on to the story. If you love YA paranormal than this is the book for you it is filled it with young love, some magic, and the paranormal.

I found myself staying up way to late to see what was going to happen next. Joy is a feisty, sweet and mature for her age sixteen year old. Who has lost her mother and her father is away from the school that he is an English I received this book from the author to give an honest review. Who has lost her mother and her father is away from the school that he is an English teacher at.

Ash Grove is a special school for those that have a talent whether it be a dancer, actor, or a musician this school is the place for you. Joy knows she is not beautiful as those that attend the school but she does not let that bother her much, she has a couple of friends that she loves hanging with and is okay with not being in the popular crowd. One day Melisande comes into town and she is a big celebrity and she has a special guy in her life named Tristan. Joy and Tristan meet by accident in a graveyard and that is when their feelings for each other start.

But will Melisande let Tristan or Tanner as he was used to be called go away or will she keep him for herself. Joy will fight for Tanner even when others think there is nothing that can be done.

Because not only does she love him but she has something that will keep them joined no matter what. On the other hand Melisande has a hidden agenda with Ash Grove and Joy is going to uncover it. The characters were very well written and I loved reading the dialogue between them all. The only thing I had trouble with is the Melisande for the life of me I just could not pronounce the name so I kept calling her Melissa.

There is young love, heartache, magic all rolled up into one. Jun 08, Billie rated it did not like it Shelves: nook , magic-powers , angels-demons , mythology , horrid-awful-terrible-books. Um wow. Apparently I let myself get carried away with all the positive reviews on this book. While this book was not the worst book I have ever read, it was up there on the list. At first it was interesting; Joy seemed like a fun, reckless, energetic character. But then a boy comes along. What a horrible person he is.

He changes who Joy is within Um wow. He changes who Joy is within a matter of days. All of a sudden, just weeks into "dating" she is in LOVE with him and tells him so. Good idea 16 year old girl! So smart.

See a Problem?

It gets even better. She is pregnant. And not only that but she is experiencing sudden paranormal anomalies that have never shown up before now. Great huh? In all honesty I hate giving books bad reviews. I know the authors work hard to write them. But after Joy learned she was pregnant I wanted to quit right there. But I held on hoping it would get better. Now the one thing that was good was the reveal of Melisande. That was kind of neat. But Tanner is a total waste of space and Joy is dumb.

Plus add underage pregnancy and you got yourself a drama! I understand this is a "modern retelling" of Tam Lin but I have no desire to read about a love sick pregnant 16 year old with no real depth. It could have been written better. Apr 26, Suzanna Williams rated it really liked it. The Shadow and the Rose by Amanda DeWees tells the story of sixteen year old Joy Summer, a pupil and also the daughter of a teacher at a prestigious performing arts school.

When her father is taken into hospital suffering from cancer, Joy is left as a boarder and struggles to fit in amongst the super-glamorous and talented but rather bitchy pupils. Dared to visit the graveyard at midnight, Joy meets Tanner Lindsay, a former pupil of the school turned supermodel. Despite still being a minor, The Shadow and the Rose by Amanda DeWees tells the story of sixteen year old Joy Summer, a pupil and also the daughter of a teacher at a prestigious performing arts school.

Shadow of the Rose

Despite still being a minor, Tanner lives with his mentor and lover the ageless and beautiful model, Melisandre. And then the story breaks away from the High School drama and drops us into a strange world full of timeslips, supernatural beings and mysterious rituals — a really exciting, fast-paced paranormal romance.

I really liked Joy. The pupils at the school were well-drawn and Ms DeWees managed to get away from the usual stereo-typical teenage characters. Melisandre was suitably menacing and controlling and the plot was well thought out and explained. I understand that there are more books to follow, so hopefully Tanner can redeem himself as the series unfolds. The book is YA but may be unsuitable for younger readers of the genre as there are sexual implications leading to a teenage pregnancy and some references to smoking.

I received this ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review. Feb 08, Valerie Mcqueen rated it it was amazing. Joy is an average teen in a school filled with extraordinary teens.

As a student of Ash Grove, you have to be the best at what you do. It is survival of the fittest for those who seek glory in the performing arts. Joy meets handsome Tanner and the romance begins quickly. Never been one to attract much attention, Joy is amazed that he even wants anything to do with her. Little does she know, this romance could end up costing her either her life or his.

Tanner's life is not his own to live. What an awesome story. The characters are simply amazing. My heart ached for Tanner and his nightmare of a childhood. Knowing that je never heard I love you from his parents just ripped my heart put. Then Joy, who can't simply adore her fighting and often fearless spirit. The mark of an exceptional author is one where the reader feels as if they know each of the characters. This is one of those novels. The plot does not disappoint as well. It is fast paced, with just the right mix of romance, adversity, and action. It isn't a predictable novel.

In fact, everything I thought would be the conclusion was totally wrong, bit on a good way!!! Even the scenery seemed magical.

It was paranormal but realistically so. I can't say enough about how much I really loved this one. I think this is one both the romance fans and the paranormal fans will equally enjoy. I know I loved it.

It is a definite must read for anyone who enjoys those genres. Aug 07, Marta Cox rated it really liked it. My first book from this author and have to admit I don't read an awful lot of YA fiction as sometimes it can be a little too juvenile for my tastes.

Teller Gets $545,000 in Magic Fight

Not really keen on bratty teenagers if honest and yes I have one of my own! So was very pleasantly surprised when I started to read this as the standard of writing is superb. This may be aimed at a young audience with very little sex or violence but is in no way childish! Written in a manner that draws the reader in to a world that does not seem My first book from this author and have to admit I don't read an awful lot of YA fiction as sometimes it can be a little too juvenile for my tastes. Written in a manner that draws the reader in to a world that does not seem contrived but almost real.

Briefly we read the tale of Joy who is a student at a prestigious school and whilst there she meets a very attractive guy named Tanner. Their attraction is immediate but the author does not rush the young couple into a headlong Love affair. Tanner is heavily involved with a very influential older woman and does not seem in any hurry to break their relationship. Joys puzzled by the seemingly unholy relationship between the two and fights to understand it and perhaps win her man.

Great supporting characters add to the mix and a story that leaves this reader wanting more. Maybe you have guessed that I enjoyed this tale! I would happily recommend it although the paranormal story is touched on lightly and i felt the ending a little rushed. I am sure the author has more planned for these characters and hope that we learn more about the supernatural side of the story in any books that follow.

I would rate this as a 4 I received a copy of this free in exchange for an honest review Apr 10, Amanda Orick rated it really liked it. The Shadow and the Rose is a young adult paranormal story. It takes place at a school called Ash Grove for preforming arts in North Carolina.
