That John harmonized with himself would take at least one remake or reduction take. Lewisohn only mentions 19 takes out of which 5 were complete. Were the other ones edit pieces or break-downs he does not specify.

Half of us thought the last verse was Paul harmonizing with himself, half of us thought it was Paul and George. I believe it's only George who did it when they played live. Ah, this old discussion. I don't think it ever got solved, right? To me it sounds like Paul singing the low bit, but sometimes I can even hear George doing it, and I even remember reading different book and online sources who credit the harmony vocal to John himself, Paul or George So I don't think there's anything like a "definitive word" on the subject.
As for Beatles harmonizing with themselves, though, Paul tended to do it more often than the others oh I wonder why could that be? I think it's Paul doing the low bit, BTW.
