My husband and I visit a State Youth Prison every week as mentors to young men between the ages of 18 and I have started sending this book in to the prison and hope that every boy in that facility ends up reading it. I learned a lot about how to better connect with teens through Reggie's examples and ways of sharing life's lessons. Reggie is written in a tone that young people will connect with, but with the sincere depth that only God's story has.

It is not easy to help young people see and understand their value, especially to God, but Reggie accomplishes and conquers the task. I especially enjoyed Reggie's versions of the stories of people's lives in the Bible. He brought biblical characters to the present day and made them feel real. I especially enjoyed his description of the story of Hosea and Gomer. I would love to see and hear Reggie speak in person after reading his book. I will continue sending copies of the book into the youth prison and know that it will touch lives inside that dark and dreary place.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. It is a very interesting and entertaining book. I will recommended to others. It was a gift but I bought it on Kindle too. Audio CD Verified Purchase. This is an excellent book which challenges anyone who has had difficulties or have children with low self esteem issues. Its kind of funny yet it delivers some hard hitting issues that youth faces on a daily basis. The author uses himself and the issues he faced coming up, to give hope to anyone who is going through some tough times.

I saw Reggie once when we lived in Ohio and our church had him there.

I have no doubt about the author's sincerity and desire to witness for God but maybe he needs to focus more on God in order to do this. Apr 22, Jamie rated it it was ok. Reggie is an autobiography and inspirational book in one.

The author is a motivational speaker in high schools all around the world and in this book he shares a lot of what he speaks to those kids. He shares funny anecdotes, childhood memories, narrates Bible stories in a modern way and includes questions at the end of each chapter, some simple, some pretty deep. I found the very beginning of the book to be a little bit arrogant. He talks a number of times about how many kids he speaks to, how he Reggie is an autobiography and inspirational book in one.

He talks a number of times about how many kids he speaks to, how he's invited all over the world, and proclaims how he is considered one of the most popular public school and motivational speakers in the world. After that I found it hard to continue, but I had to, partly because I don't like leaving a book unfinished, and partly because I received this book free from BookSneeze to review.

A lot of the book is filled with analogies, so much that I found it sometimes hard to follow and to remember what he was even talking about. I also thought he was maybe a bit crude in some instances, though you can tell he is gearing his book mostly towards teenagers and young adults, so then those kinds of references are forgivable. I also did not like how he used the story of creation to state that since God didn't make His usual "It was good" comment after what He created on Tuesday or the second day of creation to say that a "Tuesday" in your life is a time when it's difficult to see the good, implying God had difficulty seeing the good in part of His creation.

Seemed like a bit of a stretch. The saving grace of this book was his modern takes on Bible stories as well as the entire last two chapters of the book.

For as much as I was lost amid the analogies and motivational-type writing throughout most of it, I was enthralled with his renditions of well-known stories from 'his favourite book,' as he calls the Bible. As well, the last chapter in particular focuses on how important a father is in every person's life, and he explains very well how God is our Daddy.

He breaks down what people today think of the concept of how God is our Father, and revamps it to better suit the Biblical Heavenly Father. He also gives a couple powerful examples of God working amazingly through the lives of mere humans. This book is probably very well suited to high schoolers, or even adults, who feel lost, trapped by their past and worried about their future. It gives hope through God and he explains the plan of salvation well.

The book isn't just a retelling of Reggie's life with a sad beginning and happy ending, it is an eventful ride which began with a birth mother who was a prostitute, asking a teacher, her only friend, to raise her son. The teacher and her husband adopted Reggie. It wasn't until second grade that Reggie realized his parents were not his birth family.

Although raised in a loving home, Reggie struggled growing up with obstacles which made him question his self worth. It is through these struggles that he finds the transforming power of God's love. Reggie wants to share this message of God's love and that each day we have choices to make and it is how we respond to those choices that will determine our future.

I don't have to see your home to know your shame Now, this stanza is repeated by Reggie at speaking engagements around the world. The book is divided into ten chapters and at the end of each chapter, there are questions that can be used by the reader alone, in a group discussion or a book club. He stresses three strong points throughout the book. We can get past them. He expresses a deep love and concern for the youth of our world. The teenage years are not useless years of sowing oats, getting into or staying out of trouble. Teens can and do make a significant difference in this world; and Reggie illustrates how.

Aug 20, Stephanie Ziegler rated it really liked it Recommended to Stephanie by: Reggie was born because his Mom needed money to feed her two kids and had sex. Loving football and music, activities on opposite ends of the popularity spectrum, Reggie did not fit in anywhere. It was a professor in college who asked Reggie to accompany him to a conference and asked Reggie to tell them his story.

He has a great sense of humor and has learned to laugh at himself i. He does not throw religion in your face. In each chapter, he tells a bible story but in laymen terms and uses modern-day examples to help us understand. I have not read the bible but I feel like I now know some of what is printed in there. He also uses his own personal stories as examples, some make you laugh, some bring a tear to your eye. There are pictures throughout the book that shows him as he grew up, his parents, him talking to students and that makes me feel like I am his friend because he is allowing me into the most personal part of his life.

Every time I turned the page, I wished Reggie would come to my town so I can hear him speak. That wish alone shows you how great the book is and how great Reggie is! Until next time, take life one page at a time!
