Can anybody argue about the benefits for a child who is appreciated and enjoyed for what she can do and does naturally? Yet policymakers and powerful philanthropists are continuing to push us in the opposite direction — toward more schooling, more testing, more adult direction of children, and less opportunity for free play. Too much following and the same is true. In wisdom we find balance between the two. Children are not allowed to have grumpy moods, bad days, disrespectful tones, or bad attitudes. Yet, us adults have them all the time.

None of us are perfect. We must stop holding our children to a higher standard of perfection than we can attain ourselves.
