Hotel and motels are ready for families on vacation or couples looking for a relaxing beach getaway. Boat charters offer daily rides around the harbors to lighthouses, and at sunset for cocktail cruises. The focal point of summer on the southern Maine coast is of course the beach. But there is much more to do and see, like scenic shoreland walking paths and bike trails, salt marshes and estuaries, amusement parks and attractions for the kids, museums and historic sites like Fort McClary in Kittery to Fort Williams in Portland. There is an abundance of watersports awaiting in summer on the southern Maine coast. You can rent a kayak or canoe and explore the rivers and harbors, or take a scenic lobster boat ride from Ogunquit or Kennebunkport to see the islands, lighthouses and shore from the beautiful blue waters.
