In effect, these cue words or phrases for the subcomponents of society demarcated by age are not only useful, but are generally the language used by non-demographers and society as a whole when discussing the current spectrum of population cohorts.

Our goal, this month, then, is to provide a primer on the identification and description of the population cohorts in America as currently widely but not universally agreed upon by demographers and market researchers. Depression era individuals tend to be conservative, compulsive savers, maintain low debt and use more secure financial products like CDs versus stocks. These individuals tend to feel a responsibility to leave a legacy to their children. Tend to be patriotic, oriented toward work before pleasure, respect for authority, have a sense of moral obligation.

This generation had significant opportunities in jobs and education as the War ended and a post-war economic boom struck America. However, the growth in Cold War tensions, the potential for nuclear war and other never before seen threats led to levels of discomfort and uncertainty throughout the generation.

Members of this group value security, comfort, and familiar, known activities and environments. They use it on a daily basis to keep in contact with friends and family, particularly those who they see every day.

As a result, the increased use of mobile technology has caused Gen Z'ers to spend more time on their smartphones, and social media and has caused online relationship development to become a new generational norm. The parents of the Gen Z'ers fear the overuse of the Internet by their children.

Parents dislike the ease of access to inappropriate information and images as well as social networking sites where children can gain access to people worldwide. Children reversely feel annoyed with their parents and complain about parents being overly controlling when it comes to their Internet usage. They interact with people who they otherwise would not have met in the real world, becoming a tool for identity creation.

According to Twenge, the negative side of the iGen is they are less "face to face" due to the extensive use of smartphones. They are also known to feel more lonely and left out. Walter Thomson claims that the majority of teenagers are concerned about how their posting will be perceived by people or their friends. While these are great first businesses, Generation Z now has access to social media platforms, website builders, 3D printers, and drop shipping platforms which provides them with additional opportunities to start a business at a young age.

The internet has provided a store front for Generation Z to sell their ideas to people around the world without ever leaving their house. The results were heavily divided along racial lines with White and Native American students favoring Trump by a 33 point and 20 point margin respectively, and Black and Hispanic students favoring Clinton by a 40 point and 22 point margin respectively. Asian students were more divided, favoring Clinton by a 10 point margin, while Middle Eastern students favored Trump by a 7 point margin.
