It's almost as though you were invited into a warm, charming home on a cold, snowy night. You know it's true love as you listen to Les talk about his city here; he praises the people--their warmth and sincerity, but doesn't flinch from the warts to be found here, either. Les Roberts is a writer, and a damned good one. The tone is captivating.

Reading it is like having a private conversation with Les Roberts. He brings to life the many people and places native Clevelanders take for granted. Thank you, Les Roberts, for a positive look at Cleveland. I felt like I was having a firsthand experience. As I turned the pages of this book, I once again appreciated the author's wit he always makes me laugh out loud and his smooth style of writing.

More than just one book. After 15 years of life on the North coast, Roberts is still madly in love with Cleveland and northeast Ohio--both the current reality and the promise of what they could be--and he loves the life he's had here. Those who have not been there might want to make it their business to do so. Ver todas las apps de lectura gratuitas de Kindle.

Cleveland has been good to Mr. Roberts reciprocates with a bit of humor and only a brief dash of sentiment. I usually don't read mysteries, unless they have an extra twist, like an historical peeeriod or take place in a city I grew up in. The cleveland I grew up in was proud of its cultural heritage - the gardens along Liberty Blvd. I did't expect anything of this sort from Les roberts his writing is all about cleveland today, which I know only by watch the Cleveland TV channels. Roberts mentioned a garden, it would no doubt be something his private eye ran through while chasing a bad guy.

So no, a travelogue this is not. It is more a personal take on a place, a good place, and I am looking forward to more mysteries, which Mr. Roberts does very well, and also accurately. Roberts has written a fabulous tribute to Greater Cleveland people and places, and this memoir holds broad appeal for readers whether they're visitors, newcomers, or longtime residents. Roberts has used to bring Milan to life on the page, the ways and reasons Milan has evolved, and what the future may hold for this beloved private investigator. I also recommend the book to writers and students of writing for its insights into Mr.

Roberts' methods as a novelist, in particular his daily regimen and dedication to the craft. Mar 03, April Helms rated it really liked it Shelves: Fans of Roberts's works, particularly the Milan Jacovich mystery series, and residents of Cleveland will enjoy this. It's not really an autobiography, but the author relates his life and impressions of Cleveland and elsewhere , and he tells of some of the inspirations for some of his characters and locations in the Jacovich series.

He relates what he loves about the city - and a few things that drive him and I suspect most residents nuts, the people who he has befriended and some of his favor Fans of Roberts's works, particularly the Milan Jacovich mystery series, and residents of Cleveland will enjoy this.

He relates what he loves about the city - and a few things that drive him and I suspect most residents nuts, the people who he has befriended and some of his favorite haunts. Actually, this isn't a bad guide for Cleveland-area residents who want to explore their neighborhood, or for those who have recently moved here and want to know this area better.

This short book pages has a conversational, easy to read style, and, having met the author I can "hear" him narrating it. Jan 16, Janice rated it liked it Shelves: This is a book that I'd like to own because Roberts talks about all his Milan Jacovich books with lots of tidbits on how, when or why. You also get a further glimpse of the man Les Roberts, his life and especially his connection with Cleveland.

Just did a reread of this book in preparation to rereading the Milan Jacovich series, and I now know Roberts didn't stop the series and that there are 2 more since plus another in the works This time around when rereading the book, I feel th This is a book that I'd like to own because Roberts talks about all his Milan Jacovich books with lots of tidbits on how, when or why. This book, written by a mystery novelist whose books are set in Cleveland, discusses the author's move to Cleveland, how he writes his novels, and even how he chooses the names of his characters often based on people he knows in Cleveland. Most of this book was moderately interesting to me, but near the end Roberts gets a bit too focused on how great all his friends are. Having said that, if I still lived in Cleveland where I lived I would probably recognize more of the names Roberts This book, written by a mystery novelist whose books are set in Cleveland, discusses the author's move to Cleveland, how he writes his novels, and even how he chooses the names of his characters often based on people he knows in Cleveland.

Having said that, if I still lived in Cleveland where I lived I would probably recognize more of the names Roberts mentions and appreciate this book more. Jun 27, Tom rated it it was ok Shelves: This book was fairly underwhelming. While it was a short, breezy, read, for which the author deserves some credit, it also seemed to be mostly just a compilation of lists: The descriptions were often too short to even be considered vignettes. Also, several times the same things were repeated in different chapters, and I found several typos, which always rub me the wrong way.

This book could have used more editing and polish.

That Les Roberts really has an ego! Feb 27, Nicky Wills rated it it was ok. I have enjoyed Les Roberts mystery novels but found him to be pompous in his memoir. I also was unhappy with his neglect of the westside of Cleveland - focused only on the East side.
