Josie's secrecy about her project made no sense because nothing about her past threatened her. To the contrary, she should want to seek a lawyer friend and accomplice to succeed at her mission. My mild notes don't stop this novel from receiving five full stars. It was a wonderful jaunt, too seldom given to adult audiences, where we look for potentially important items in cellars and attics and in which a non crime mystery sets us on an adventure. I prefer a powerful mystical story, rather than only "a touch", as the author called it. However some etherealness did accompany this pure mystery and I enjoyed it immensely.
A quick read with a ghost and paranormal cat, mysterious death and a big house! I mainly read mystery and don't like romance but I did like this book. I like this writers style and really wish the book had more of the mystery and less of the romance. I thought it was kinda funny that this ghost seemed to want her to do something and was getting impatient but for most of the book the guy was trying to get into the girl's pants and she was pushing him away but at the same time wanting him.

The cat part was very interesting and kinda funny and left me wishing I wasn't allergic to them.
So the bulk of the book, which is short, is about the relationship of the two main characters and the ghost part is short of a backdrop. Now that I've finished it I find myself wondering about things that were left dangling. Like, I wish I could have read about them working on her father's case, and what was up with the old woman having the same hair and eye color as Josie and asking if they were related? I mean, it is pretty odd for anyone to have red hair and "violet eyes" and then she meets this old woman who had the same hair and eye color at least when she was younger.
It almost feels like I am missing the other half of the book. I do have to say though, if I came across another book by this author I'd be tempted to read it since her romance writing isn't too "Gag me with a spoon man. Anyone wanting to read tales about hauntings. Was it the greatest? No, but it was definitely better than average in my opinion. As with many books of this nature, I always find things I wish the author wrote differently, so I try not to hold that against the book. The characters were decently constructed, but completely fleshed out.
Not all authors are able to convey emotions in their writing, and I just didn't feel that Hooper managed to do that all that strongly. But then again, it may not have been something considered necessary for the story when it was written. That's something that I've learned over the course of time in the writing world. At one time, expose was important, but in today's trends, emotions and dialogue are considered more important, so I tend not to think less of a story if I don't always feel what the characters are feeling.
The fact that I can remember the story seven months after I read means it had to be decent. Otherwise, I very well may have forgotten it. With it being this time of year, I'd definitely say to give it a read. It will keep you entertained while you read it, and you might feel differently than I did That's really the thing with reviews - what one person likes, someone else doesn't. For that reason, I encourage you to read this book and see what you think of it! Then there's also the mysterious cat Pendragon, as per Josie Douglas has rented an old country home, looking for peace and quiet to do some research on a tragedy that occurred in her family twenty years ago. Then there's also the mysterious cat Pendragon, as per his nametag on his collar that makes itself quite at home with Josie, leading her to clues along the way as she tries to understand why the ghost has chosen to contact her. The cat in this story, Pendragon, and a side character, writer Tucker Mackenzie, both appear in Kay Hooper's later book, The First Prophet, which was published eighteen years after The Haunting of Josie was originally published in Short and rather shallow.
Boy meets girl, girl plays hard to get, boy afraid to lose girl to ghost, boy and girl solve ghost's problem by being guided by enigmatic cat. I hope the other Kay Hooper books are better cause this one was awful. It was like a romance writer was attempting something scary, tripped at the starting line and then decided WTH just go with romance and add a ghost.
The characters weren't that developed and the plot very weak, if there was a plot. To top off this mess, everyt Short and rather shallow. To top off this mess, everything was so damn convenient. Marc was conveniently a criminal defense attorney, clues to solve the mystery of the ghost were conveniently dropped in their laps via the cat. Sad to say I doubt I'll read any more of Kay Hooper's work until one of them conveniently drops into my lap.

Her landlord is Marc Westbrook, a gorgeous lawyer recovering from a car accident.
The two of them are attracted from the start with some meddling from Pendragon the cat. When a ghost enters the equation they are both sidetracked into investigating the death of his grand-uncle. I enjoy Originally published in this is a reprint following the success of her newer fiction. I enjoyed the read, the characters were quite a lot of fun and Pendragon was a lot of fun.

Josie, the main character, is on a secret quest to clear her father's name and has chosen to do this in a remote rental home. Her landlord, Marc, just happens to be an attorney who's convalescing in the next house. Throw in a mysterious black cat called Pendragon and a sudden haunting by Marc's great uncle who supposedly committed suicide and you've got yourself a couple of mysteries to solve.

I listened to the audiobook, and I might have enjoyed it more if I had read it. The narrator was grating on my nerves. She gave Mark a crappy twang that did not fit him at all.
I would have never read that in my mind like that, ug it was awful. The love scenes were very nicely written. But the rest of the book never really came together. It was kind of weird. I really liked this book. It was a sweet story of finding love and learning to trust.
I really enjoyed the cats part in moving the story along. After reading some reviews of this book I was expecting a saccharin story but what I got was a smart story with intelligent characters and a believable love story. His nephew lived in a cottage on the property recovering from an accident and fell in love with Josie. Josie was working through some things from her past and Marc helped in getting things worked out. Pendragon the cat was an interesting character in the book too. Thought this was going to be a haunting tale and it turned out to be a romance novel.

Chia and Crystal, you all know I love Kari but when she said Kay Hooper was one of the few horror author's she liked, well let's just say any something year-old gal whose bedroom is decorated with Disney characters is no judge of horror. I really enjoyed this book. However, I believe that the scenes could have been played out a little longer. I think that the mystery could have been unwrapped a little slower--maybe let us get a first person view on the mystery and also the story in general. The book was ok. The romantic portions seemed to be thrown into the book. The ghost mystery portion was the best storyline in the book, which unfortunately is not the best I've read, but I've liked her other books, so gave her the benefit of the doubt.
