And sometimes you are going to find it is not your thing. Try to find someone who sees what you see in your work or shares your passion and together you can make exactly what you want to see on your cover. And that right there is magic. I have since gotten help with covers. The info is out there for sure. And I have to admit that cover design software has come a long way since I tried it the first time.

I am interested in trying again one day, but for now my focus is writing and I will gladly place such work in the hands of a professional. But that is definitely a bold endeavor for any film company to partake in. It was take some serious magic to pull off and I know expectations for that would be high.

What’s the biggest mistake you’ve ever made in your writing career?

So I will just keep dreaming: In my experience I have seen book stores that actually prefer to talk to a third party. It is like credibility and unfortunately some places have had bad experiences with authors directly. Sometimes it is good having someone giving you a hand there and building you up. I know I would appreciate the time saved by getting more writing done. I would have definitely pursued martial arts more and become a teacher. I have always been fascinated by practicing, learning and discovering things about myself while interacting with new people.

It was literally heaven for me. I had this table looking out over this pristine lake of tranquil blue. Beyond it wilderness and mountains and open sky. I had a warm cup of coffee, some snacks handy and not a care in the world. I remember this completely feeling of peace and just being in that moment.

I still remember and often miss that complete sense of contentment. Give yourself a chance to find your voice.

You have to give your book a chance to come alive on its own. The beauty of writing is you can always improve it through editing and revisions. But first you have to let it form and you have to get it out and down on the page. Keep that about you and a blank page can be looked at not as an intimidating hurdle but rather a realm of infinite possibility.

Echoes of Ashener by David Partelow

Let no one tell you otherwise, having a good book cover is crucial. It has to pull interest and draw a potential reader to check it out further. This is even more true if you are up and coming. I am a bit of both. I outline a bit or hash out some details at first when I get something started. Often I talk to people about my idea.

In this stage of it the seeds are planted and start to cultivate in my mind. It is like a dirty window that I am seeing a new world through and every swipe gets me a step closer to seeing it fully. Once that takes me far enough I tend to dive in and see where I go. The characters take on life and often I am surprised by twists, turns and what characters say and do. It is like traveling for me: I may pick a destination and plot a course, but getting there is half the fun.

You are going to have detours and roadblocks and twists and turns and that is all part of the ride. I think every book has a right to express itself how it needs to be expressed. You live, learn and evolve. I think a book cover is a personal thing as an author. Discover new books on Goodreads. Sign in with Facebook Sign in options.

Rather than make things worse by pushing forward with frustration and little results I simply change routes.

Writer's block might mean I simply need to step away and work on something else or a different aspect of the project. It is a lot less detrimental or frustrating if you simply aim your creative energy elsewhere.
