Breene created is very well developed and described. I felt like I was there at times. I am wondering what was the inspiration for Cayan's town and castle. I definitely felt like I have walked the streets there, stood in Cayan's castle, been at the Women's Circle meeting, and trained in the fields with the Honour Guard. This is one of the best series I have read. I wasn't even looking for this series, nor did I have any expectations.
I read the first two books of Darkness series, which I liked a lot, and I subscribed to K. Breene Newsletter, the first Warrior book was announced, then the second and third. I waited for the fifth before I started reading the series. I am glad I did. Waiting for the last book was so frustrating, I cannot imagine waiting after every single one of them. Fortunately, they are all out now and can be read in a matter of days, they are so fast and thrilling.
I have read some reviews about lack of interaction between Shanti and Cayan in one of the books, but I honestly cannot fathom why would someone say that. And I can say it ends well! One of the best series ever! Forged in Blood The Warrior Chronicles, 0. Breene also wrote a little bonus epilogue to Overtaken as a separate short story. Do not miss it! I held off on reading it for months and months because I just did not want to let go of the story.
I will admit that this series has had a lot of ups and downs for me and was one, at certain points, that was very easy to set aside for books that were more consistently exciting - but I still love it. Shanti is one of my favorite female characters, ever, and while I do say that a lot, I'm serious. I have a growing list, but her snarky comments are some of my favorite and I absolutely love the banter between her and pretty much all of the other characters. I actually love the banter between pretty much everyone, and it feels real, not like someone made it up and it isn't actually happening.
The story is just Shanti is never too tired, hurt, happy, or angry to make a snarky, sarcastic comment to anyone and just loves pushing buttons and being a general pain to anyone she deems worthy of it.

She pushes every single boundary thrown in her way and doesn't let anything stop her. She is truly a force you will have trouble finding anywhere else. It helps that K. Breene was so great at building up the relationships between most of the characters and makes you feel invested in almost everyone. There were a few people here and there that were supposed to be a little more impactful that I never found myself caring much about I'm looking at you, Daniels , but that could be due to me setting the books aside for extended periods of time and forgetting.
That could do it. I may eventually read the entire series over again, straight though, so that I get a better grasp on some of the things that got a bit foggy for me over time, which happens. I tend to forget details if I do not read a series quickly. I normally wait until a series is completed before I delve into it for that very reason, but this one just caught my attention and I couldn't resist.
The battle scenes were some of my favorite parts to read. She really nailed it and seemed to really have a grasp on how it all works, without making it feel fake, stiff or skipped around. I've found some fighting scenes feel like they are missing little gaps of information and it makes it very hard to visualize, something I never had an issue with here. They also find themselves in some morally difficult situations that I always found got resolved in a satisfying way, while making me really feel the tension and emotional turmoil they would clearly be going through. That takes a great writer.
If you love strong female and male characters that are actually well developed, lots of combat and sarcasm, plus an interesting story line with a little bit of romance thrown in, you should not hesitate to give this series a go. Stick it through some of the slower story building parts in some of the other books and you'll be rewarded with a truly gratifying conclusion, which we all know isn't always what you get after investing time in a series as long as this.
She really delivers and closes all of the open ends without leaving it feeling rushed. Now normally I would have shelved the book for reading at a later indeterminate date, but this time I knew I had to keep going. As any heavy reader will know, finding brilliance on the written page can sometimes be terribly hard, and I would be doing myself a disservice if I had allowed my twingy lack of commitment to K. Breene's tale to stop me amidst such a glorious unwinding of events.
The heroine Shanti, her Honour Guard and all those wonderful characters that gather around her throughout this overwhelmingly rich tapestry simply burst from the page. Neither of them are characters who will give up without a fight but now they're in the difficult position of trying to defeat their enemy without getting an entire city full of hostages caught in the crossfire.
As much as I love this series I've always been more than a little irritated by the attitude of the guys in Cayan's army. They think of women as the weaker sex who need to be coddled and protected and I've never liked that about them. Shanti has been working hard to change their opinion and while they may have finally realised that she is as strong as the best of them the fact she's constantly wiping the floor with them has probably helped with that!
Sometimes it can be an advantage when women are underestimated though and in this case the Hunter is making the same mistake as Cayan's army always has. The city is under siege but it's only really the men who have been imprisoned and who are being closely monitored. The Women's Circle have been staying under the radar but secretly plotting and have put plans in place to rescue their men folk.
I absolutely loved seeing Shanti and the Women's Circle in action, these ladies are more than capable of protecting their own and they prove it a thousand times over. Cayan and the rest of the men are going to have no choice but to accept that now and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this changes the dynamics as the series continues.
Invasion is full of action, the plot pretty much never allows you time to breathe because the characters are going from one battle to the next and facing up against more difficult odds than ever. We also get to meet a whole group of new characters, not only are we getting to learn more about the Shadow warriors but we finally get the chance to meet some of the people from Shanti's homeland. I'll admit I was confused at first because the opening chapter starts from the point of view of a completely new set of characters but once I realised what was going on I was really excited at the chance to learn more about where Shanti came from and to see her through the eyes of her people.
I was also slightly disappointed that we didn't see more of Shanti and Cayan working together but the more I think about it the more I'm actually pleased about it - it's good to see that even though they're a couple they're not joined at the hip and that they are still going to play to their strengths even if that means working separately for a while. I'm absolutely loving this series and I can't wait for the next book, please write quickly Ms Breene , please, please write quickly!

We follow these journeys and various troubles, which lead to the fight over the city.
We finally meet Shanti's people and it's great to see them all fight together. And Shanti being Shanti was awesome as usual.

ILY's on her side, of course, were forced and awkward Her destiny won't ever allow her to have the family she craves. She is filled with so much pessimism about the future it grates beyond just being realistic. Liked that some of her martyrdom was stalled by the Women's circle I like that not everyone in the book is invincible. They can be defeated. Their powers, though great, are not God-like. They are afraid for their loved ones and themselves.
I was taken out of the story a few times by the use of contemporary slang: Things like that as they didn't seem to fit the setting. Probably because of the infusion of fresh characters. And probably because of less scenes with Shanti and Cayan together. I swear, if they're not currently doinit, she's just not that into him. And not only that, kinda messed up to be thinking 'when should I tell him this is over' right before and after "bedding" him. For those who are all like "Don't be reading this book for Rating: For those who are all like "Don't be reading this book for the romance, you're supposed to be reading it for all the kickass fighting scenes!
It's just a crappy romance so fans b like "Don't look over there! So I received a copy from the author for an honest review for this book, and so I went into my TBR and started from the first one to the last and even though I had many sleepless nights, I gotta say K. Breene has made me once again kneel before her and bow down to her awesomeness. Shanti and Cayan and the crew are going into battle to try and save Cayans's city and his people from the Hunter and his minions.
We are introduced to new characters which was fun, when you read you will know why. Shanti and Cayan are destined to be together but Shanti has her reasons of not going into it percent. I love these two, the chemistry is outstanding. I can not wait for the next installment. I you haven't read any of her books, please do so, she will not disappoint you!!!!!!!! This is the 4 book from the Chosen series.
Dialogs are so well written, and sometimes so funny i laugh really hard. Here we get to know some of Shanti people, and they are dangerous, really ddangerous. She and the Cayan had some really hard battles, and sometimes i was really woried.

I was really surprised abaut women in Cayan citiy, they knew their stuff, and it was wery helpful stuff, whic helped them all. This book was a really good read, and i will absolutely re read the whole series. I cant wa This is the 4 book from the Chosen series. I cant wait to so what will K. Breene put together in next book, i have really high expectations for the next book. With the Shadowlands behind them, a new adventure awaits when our heroes need to free Cayan's city from the Hunter. All of the characters play major roles so the action is hopping from one battle or incursion to the next. Shanti's people and the Shadow warriors are all included. Her strength and love for those around her is what keeps the people fighting for what is theirs. I love the strength and endurance all the women have in this story. As always with K. I didn't like it as much as the others, and felt this book was wholly unnecessary in the series. Though there were many great aspects in the book that I just love and a few things I just couldn't stand, it could have all been included in the other books. This time around, I didn't like the constant changing of POV. First, rise of the female warriors! They come in all shape SIGH. They come in all shapes and sizes.
Don't mess with them. Women are a formidable force to be reckoned with and they surely stand out more in this book. And I'm glad the men are slowly realizing this and are able to somewhat accept it. Thank you, Shanti, for leading that change - although, of course, she can't be given all the credit. The women in Westwood Lands have a wonderful and fucking smart tradition. Second, where the hell are the Shadow Warriors? Geez, Shanti fought so hard for them in the last book and then they're nearly nonexistent and completely useless in this one kind of like in Shadow Lands.
Their situation is explained, but I felt like it was such a bad excuse. Third, I'm glad the Hunter is back. He sounds like an epic, deadly antagonist. He fell utterly short. Trained to kill, to be emotionless, to never admit defeat? How can someone like that have super strict morals? It just doesn't make sense. I would probably make a better antagonist against Shanti than the Hunter.
It's a fucking WAR! It's starting to make me not believe the pain of the characters. The death toll is crazy high I might as well just feel sad for him and his loss. And there's utter chaos and destruction everywhere. But it seems like because Shanti and her people experienced such a big loss before the war, it's enough and no more deaths need to happen to her because it'll destroy her. I highly doubt she'd be that weak after everything she's gone through. It's starting to grind on my fucking nerves. She's my lady love, my girl crush.

Absolutely amazing and dually wonderful! As I always start off, the books in this series keep getting so much better! Breene has a hypnotic way of story telling, combining the forces of war and warriors and intermingling deep soul shattering love and romance, there is a difference in the way love defines itself; there is Shanti's deep romantic love as is told in legendary stories of soul mates, which they are, then add their powers being mated as well, which in this story rarely happens.
Then Absolutely amazing and dually wonderful! Then their is love of friends, family and kin. It is said best with, "Your my Kith and my Kin and I will always love and stand by your side. Kayan knows this, but he is so used to the traditional, it will be hard for him. This is such a different land and world, than either is used to, but I believe they will never be able to stray far from each other, one of the best definitions of soul mates I have ever heard described in any book I have ever read!
My wife is my soulmate so this I understand, she helped me heal both physically and emotionally when I returned from the battlefield and war, so this draws me in specifically. The war sequences were so well done, I am a warrior and though the times and world are different wholly it's still the same. This is a series to be treasured and read numerous times. I am waiting with bated breath to read the next one, now truly The Chosen.
Shanti must also now become the Wanderer I thought it was Burson for a long time she must wander to mobilize the people's of the land who said they were standing ready. It almost is like what we did in Army Special Forces, go to the country and gather the people who were subjugated and "recruit" them and then teach them how to create a counterinsurgency, and then follow us into battle against the insurgents. This is exactly what Shanti is doing, creating the largest counterinsurgency this land has ever known as to break the yoke of oppression Xandre has over them and she and Kayan will have to fight him to the death Until next time, I am writing a review for the audiobook now as I am a big immersion reader, catch it if you listen as well May 09, AE rated it really liked it.
This series really surprised me. However in this series, KF Breene manages to pull in surprises for every book. Oct 05, Kendra Parker rated it really liked it. This was another great addition to the series. The author continues with the trends of empowering the women, but never at the expense of the men. I appreciate that she includes strong characters of both genders working together and helping each other. Only This was another great addition to the series. Only the Honor Guard boys are treated with anything less than regard, but even there they show growth and begin to earn their own right of respect.
