She was happy to see O'Brien and his family. They did a good thing by going to see her. It was a good moral to this story. Always do to others what you would want others to do for you. A Story In Three Parts: This story was very difficult for me to undrstand. But the moral to the story was very understandable.

At the end of the story towards the fire i started to get the lesson tought throughtout the story. This book shows that you never know what someone is going through, so unitl you do dont make any judgements about that person or assumptiond beacuse it may turn out that you will need them for something in the end.

This whole book taught a lot of life morals. It was a good book overall. I would recommend you read this book, if you havent already done so. View all 8 comments. Interestingly, my students did not enjoy this book as much because it was difficult to connect with the characters because they did not develop the way they would over the course of a novel.

I agreed with their assessment, however the plots were definitely engaging and entertaining. I think next time I would pull one or two stories and teach those specifically rather than use the whole collection. This is one of the best, up there with Romeo and Juliet. Myers introduces us to Mack, a basketball player, and then Kitty who reads Mack a love poem. The two date and make plans for the future. As you might expect in a story real to life, Mack becomes despondent and even rejects Kitty. What you might not expect is how Kitty reacts, how Mack reacts in turn to her, and exactly how this relationship pans out because of that accident.

Every story is connected to each other and the more that you read you get a better sense of th street and understand why the things that happen there, "don't happen anywhere else in the world. After reading this first story I just knew that I was in for more brilliance as I continued to read.

Walter Dean Myers carries readers through a vacillating roller coaster with each new story that he tells. After one read this book they will have a clear understanding on how different th street is from any other place in the world.

There is every thing from love to fighting to death that happen on this street. What prevented this book from being 5 stars was that it was very contrived. The genre is realistic fiction but some of the things that happened on this street seemed to be mere fantasy and I would have appreciated it if it was more realistic.

These short stories are very interesting because it relates to real life situations, such as violence, gossip on the street and gossip while getting a haircut at the barbershop, and even the family hood that the street shows.

Sadie was a widow lady, her husband having been run over by an ambulance while he was on the way across Malcolm X Boulevard to buy a Lotto ticket.

That looked like a good deal to me because Big Joe was really successful and everybody liked him. Not only that but the brother was handsome, too. He was tall and dark and had white hair at the temples, which made him distinguished-looking. He was going to have his funeral. Big Joe was popular on th Street. So by the day of the funeral it looked like there was going to be a big turnout. Now, besides Sadie and Peaches there were some sisters from the church who thought the idea was a little peculiar and they made sure that everybody knew it, but even some of them showed up because they appreciated a good funeral, too.

When we came into the funeral parlor there was Big Joe, lying up front in his casket. It spooked me out. Sadie was sitting in the front row with her arms folded and her jaws tight. When it was my turn to file past the coffin I did so real slow. I was glad to sit back down again. I looked over at Sadie and she was getting a little misty, too. When the inside part of the funeral was over the undertaker shut the coffin. I watched to see if Big Joe was going to move. When we got outside, the hearse and the limousines were waiting, and so was Peaches.

She and two of her friends, LaToya and Squeezie, had painted these big signs. Mother Fletcher, who might be the oldest woman on the block, was just passing by and saw them. She went over to them. I went over, too, because I wanted to know what she was going to say.
