This the first in the MacEgan series and I am loving all the brothers. He is forced into an alliance to prevent his tribe from being destroyed. While times are different the political realities are sort of the same. His oldest brother Liam is killed in battle so as the next oldest he is named King; the author brings out the personalities of each of the characters in a way that makes them human.

Patrick is burdened by survivors guilt but he doesn't have time to deal with mourning his brother; he has to get his tribesmen ready to fight the Normans while having them in his castle. Some things never change even after 1, yrs. I enjoyed this book and found myself riveted to find out what would happen, but I wearied of the hero's stubborn insistence to put his duty to his clan above his lady, and wished it hadn't taken so unreasonably long for him to come around and stand up for her. Isabel, on the other hand, may be the best candidate for sainthood I've ever seen.

A person's inner strength and willingness to take leaps of faith making oneself vulnerable, do have limits when that person has no support from anyone, and this heroine possessed the inner strength and faith of a goddess. I absolutely loved the heroine in this story, and though I didn't dislike Patrick, I did become impatient with him. The secondary story of Sosanna, the girl left unwilling or unable to speak after a rape, was wonderful.

Everyone assumes that she was attacked by one of the invading Normans, and as the mystery of what happened to her unfolds, the irony of her brother's actions is a beautiful thing. I now continue on with Bevan's story, Her Irish Warrior. This is a wonderful series! This was the 3rd book written of the MacEgan brothers but is actually the first in the series in order.

It is about the oldest brother Patrick who is king of their clan or tribe or province. He is forced to take a Norman bride at a time when the Normans and Irish are not "getting along". Patrick is probably my least favorite brother although I like the character of his wife Isobel. She is very strong-willed but not obnoxious, and I like that she will not sit by and pout while her husband tries to set her aside and reject all Normans.

She wants to bring the Norman's and Irish together and it makes for an interesting historical story. There is less personal story in this book but it is still enjoyable.

What is Kobo Super Points?

I wished that the main character had come to an understanding or truce a bit earlier in the book because their arguments do get a bit repetitive. She mourns the loss of her child who was stolen from her as a baby. She is now betrothed to a chieftain who loves her but whose love she can't return. Then a new slave arrives. He acts like a warrior and when his woodworking art is recognized and her betrothed commands a carving be made of Iseult, Kieran and she are thrown together.

Their attraction is fierce and both know it can lead nowhere. Willingham's style is simple but covers all the bases in setting the historical background, developing the characters and drawing you into their lives.

Editorial Reviews

She provides enough historical details to put you in medieval Ireland, a time when the Norse frequently attacked and the small Irish settlements did not always muster an effective defense. The story moves along at a good clip and held my interest. I can recommend it. The MacEgan Brothers Series novels only in recommended reading order: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Having read and enjoyed many Highlander themed romance novels, I decided to give this story about an Irish Warrior a try.

Though there are many similarities between the Scottish Highlanders and Irish Warriors of this time period, there were enough subtle differences in their surroundings and way of life to lend it the appeal of a fresh experience. The characters were wonderfully complex, and even some of the supporting characters held my genuine interest and sympathy. Though, a bit annoyed by misunderstandings and unwillingness of people to speak their true feelings leading to needless upheaval repeatedly, I was happy to see it all righted and thoroughly enjoyed the story nonetheless.

I am anxious to continue on with this series and look forward to reading the second book in the MacEgan Brothers Series, Her Warrior King.

The Viking's Forbidden Love-Slave

Surprising because we find out just how the MacEgan's begin. See I have read two other MacEgan books, I always seem to start in the middle and work my way out In this story we take a walk with Kieran and Iseult learning of their very different struggles and the bumpy road they walk before they come together. This story was more intense for me but I could not put it down. Both have struggles, Kieran with being a slave which he is not use to and Iseult with the loss of a child.

Both struggle with honor and happiness. Both wanting to do the right thing but will it cost them future contentment? Willingham puts so much feeling and emotions into her character you feel as though you have walked a lifetime with them. She also writes smaller side stories about supporting characters in the her books that you meet.

All are wonderful and fulfilling reads! Excellent story line, and a great beginning to the MacEgan Clan. Got a bit tiresome reading that Kieran referred to himself as a slave repeatedly, knowing that the Viking raiders had not kept their side of the deal. Otherwise, a great read!

Especially if you're Irish. One person found this helpful. Michelle Willingham is at her best when writing about loss and hurt and new beginnings, capturing emotional intensity and weaving a satisfying tale of love that develops with tension and pace and unpredictable turns. I didn't really like this book. Kieran was a warrior but was afraid to fight for what's important. Iseult knew what she wanted but was denied it. The story kept going on and on and getting no where.

It took me forever to read this book, which is highly unusual for Ms.
