Welcome to Popular Online Malaysia. I've somehow managed to read the ones I like least recently. This book just irks me more than anything. I'm sure the writing is good and others can tolerate it, but the idea that someone would want to be popular is, just like Jason said, something I can't understand in the slightest. It makes relating to Steph Landry's character really difficult, hence making the book a bit of a bore.

One of the main criticisms Meg Cabot often gets about her books are that they are very generic. I would never have defended that statement and would say the exact opposite--until reading this book. On the other hand, it's really evident she had FUN writing this book, so why bother her?

But the small, original details get overshadowed by the fact that this is a horribly overdone plot.

How to be Popular

Still, adorable conclusion, and it is a little relieving that Steph does learn her lesson when it comes to popularity. I just wish it hadn't taken so long, and it still feels like she has a ways to go. Yay for Jason, much luck to his fictional mind trying to de-blurrify Steph's clearly confused brain!

Here's another Cabot that really would have done well with an alternate title.

How to Be Popular? One person found this helpful. Steph Landry certainly wouldn't be classified as popular. The entire popular group at school hates her for something that was an accident. Her mom isn't too awful happy with her right now due to the fact that she's still talking to her grandfather, who sold land to developers, thus putting the family business in jeopardy.

But Steph's determination to be well liked is in full throttle when she finds a book with detailed instructions on how to become popular. But it might get her more than she bargained for How to be Popular is yet another one of Cabot's many novels that capture the angst, vibrancy, and drama of teenage life perfectly. Though it may seem like Steph's instant popularity is a bit of a fluke, this is a novel that caters to both sides, as Steph realizes that popularity with the "In Crowd" may be fun, but is not the greener side of the pasture, and that being well liked among her own group of friends and people she actually likes is way more important.

Besides the story being lively and entertaining, the advice that Steph follows is helpful and on the ball, and will appeal to the readers as much as the story does, creating yet another fun and instantly likable novel for the scads of Cabot fans. Wow, this book is good!

I always like Cabot's books, but this one shows unusual understanding and wisdom. Meg Cabot often demonstrates superb familiarity with human nature in her books even if they are only chick lits, but this one really tops them all. I like it so well that I order a copy for myself. I'm make sure my kids read them when they are old enough. I am the kind of mother who is capable of forcing boys to read chick lit.

If nothing else, it will help them understand girls better, and every guy out there can use some more of such understanding. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. You really can re-invent yourself and still be you - tapping into potential that you never saw before.

I love Meg Cabot's books, and this one was no different. It's a book about a girl using a book to be popular, but it doesn't get her the expected reaction;instead, she gets used. But,in the end,the 'popular people' end up being the main character's friends, and it made me feel really warm inside. Anyone should read this,it's a great book.

Very good story but somewhat inappropriate for my year old. At least wait until middle school for this one.
