I discovered Christine Warren in an airport book shop two years ago and have been a fan ever since. As an author myself I appreciate a richl imaginative tale and Ms Warren certainly provides that.

I like her wit, her hilarious one liners, her 'take' on the other species genre. My only qibble is I have been waiting too long for this. I get a lot of books for review.. So , for relaxation I read Fantasy and what a rich world it is. Faerie is not the sweet Victorian world of Titania and Peter Pan. There are some nasty elements in that world and you'll come across them in this book. The concept of The Others is Ms Warrens on going love affair with fantasy.. Are you feeling low in spirits? Kind of expensive, most of the time the ebook is a little cheaper than the paperback. I've read most of this series now and while I've enjoyed the stories they are a little inconsistent from book to book and in most of the books the subplots are left unresolved.

That said, I love the creativity behind the story and they are a quick read. This author is awesome, as is this story. You can't go wrong with anything in the series. Fun, witty, characters recur and are wonderful. Great interactions, beautiful erotic sex scenes, sexy alpha males, and interesting. She takes you away from our ordinary lives. Love every story in this series! Her "Others" series is a sure bet. I love Christine Warren's books about the "Others" She has developed a magical series about shifters, fae, demons, vampires, and other creatures.

The books always have the love story of a particular couple, and this one does not disappoint. Mystery, action and humor are a given. In fact I could not hardly put this book down. I would recommend this book to all my family and friends. See all 45 reviews. Most recent customer reviews. Published 26 days ago. Published 11 months ago. Published 1 year ago. Luc stifled a chuckle. I know you want Seoc returned to Faerie with all possible haste. Which means I can use all the help I can get finding the bastard. The last thing I need is for you to go off after some cute little furry thing and leave me to do this on my own. Or worse yet, some cute little mortal thing.

Luc shifted in his seat. What could they possibly have in common? But if he is moving among the humans now, as you say, I have a feeling an introduction will be inevitable. The situation appears to be reaching a flash point. Since we had not yet heard of Seoc moving among the humans, we can still hope his presence has gone unnoted. If they begin to take note of him, out secret will be in jeopardy. Luc could hardly miss the underlying message there. The last thing we want is to have an inter-dimensional incident on our hands.

As I said, we will assist gladly in whatever way we can. The Council simply feels we should not be handling such a potentially delicate matter on our own.

Dmitri, damn his pale, chilly hide, has also volunteered his assistance. Which is the least he could do, considering he left his position as head of the Council to me when he married. Now that he has the distraction of a new bride, he often takes a kind of hands-off approach to helping. His number is on the back. Luc was spared a response to his sarcasm by a throat being carefully cleared in the doorway of the large office.

Rafe turned to acknowledge the intrusion. In fact, I told no one I would be spending any time here at all. Did this person give you a name? She did inform me that it was Council business. Please enjoy your drink while I step out and deal with my unexpected visitor. Luc stood even as Rafe turned to face the newcomer. The footman spent a split second looking mortified before he spun and made a grab for the intruder. The woman stepped sideways and knocked his hands away with a clenched fist.

He stepped forward with an outstretched hand and smiled at the latest visitor. I hardly expected to see you here at Vircolac tonight. What could have brought you to our little club?

Not Your Ordinary Faerie Tale (Novels of the Others, book 5) by Christine Warren

Nov 05, Melanie rated it it was ok Shelves: Books by Christine Warren are really hit and miss for me, and this one missed the target which makes the hits and misses a tie. While it's listed as 12 in 'The Others' series, 'Not Your Ordinary Fairy Tale' is actually a re-working of a previous work from Warren she's done this before and as such it was confusing when it fits into the timeline of 'The Others'. I also had issues with the "cultural" aspects of the story - supposedly our Fae hero Luc is from the faerie dimension that has e Books by Christine Warren are really hit and miss for me, and this one missed the target which makes the hits and misses a tie.

I also had issues with the "cultural" aspects of the story - supposedly our Fae hero Luc is from the faerie dimension that has essentially been cut off from the human realm, yet he had no problem getting the slang and pop-culture references spewed at him from the "sassy" more annoying really heroine.

All in all, I found it a convoluted and skim worthy story I'm tapping out on 'The Others' for now. View all 5 comments. Corrine and Luc's interactions were hilariously. I found myself laughing out loud a lot of the times they were conversing. That is what saved this book from getting less than 4 stars from me. There were times I almost rolled my eyes out of my head, but the laughter kept me going. Dec 29, Michelle Leah Olson rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book came up in my Amazon recommendations list.

I snatched it up because it looked good, only to read it and find that it was the best Fae book I had ever read. Christine Warren is an amazing story teller. Her characters are witty, strong, independent, and identifiable and her story is well crafted and fluid. Corinne is a reporter with multiple friends who have become involved with or married members of the supernatural community. She has basically sworn that while she loves them, she will never be one to date outside of her species.

Luc is the captain of the guard for Queen Mab of the Summer Court. After teaming up to find Seoc together, thus getting her story for her boss, keeping her friends safe and helping Luc with his mission, one things leads to another and she is helpless to do anything but feel. First book I've read in this series, saw it in a supermarket and decided to give it a shot without reading any reviews or the like.

Glad I did--the book was a quick, fun read full of wit and humor. I was laughing and grinning quite a bit, and I'm pretty sure I read half the book in a single setting. Luc's handsome, overprotective, and clearly overworked--he goes surprisingly well with the high-strung Corinne, who clearly has had a bit too much insanity in her life. The book was mostly about Luc and First book I've read in this series, saw it in a supermarket and decided to give it a shot without reading any reviews or the like.

The book was mostly about Luc and Corinne trying to keep their hands off each other and failing miserably , but a plot about a wayward Fae nephew and lost gates snuck their way in once in a while. As well as a lot of cameos from books I haven't read yet. D The point is--it was a fun ride, I enjoyed it way more then I thought I would, and I'd pick up another book in this series any time. Nov 18, Missy Jane rated it it was amazing. This series has been on my auto-buy list for a while, and with very good reason.

I love the author's sense of humor. She's great at creating sexual tension infused with wit and humor. Her heroines aren't wilting flowers but they aren't stubborn bitches either. Her heroes are all hunky Alpha males that I can easily conjure in my mind's eye from her descriptions. In this story a Fae male has to travel to Ithir our dimension to recapture the wandering nephew of the Summer Queen. Little did he kno This series has been on my auto-buy list for a while, and with very good reason. Little did he know his destiny awaited him in the form of a human female.

Very hot sex scenes that make sense. Apr 29, Amy rated it it was ok. My biggest problem with this book had to do with continuity. Early on Corinne mentions her friends who are married to Others, including Danice married to half-human half-Fae Mac. Then when she meets Luc she doesn't know what a Fae is. Later, Luc asks if she knows what a changeling is and she says that is who Mac is but Danice told her it meant half-human half-Other. Next error is when she talks about Dmitri as being over a thousand years old and a few pages later they say he is Did anybody My biggest problem with this book had to do with continuity.

Did anybody edit this book? Other problems were present as far as plot and characters go but I really get annoyed when the story contradicts itself. It is not even pages long so keep it straight. Other than the minor continuity issues, this was a really good story. Come on, how can you dislike a book with a good guy named Lucifer.

I really liked the sarcasm and bickering between Luc and Corinne. It always makes a romance more exciting than the I love you, I love you more dialogue.

Not Your Ordinary Faerie Tale

I have the most trouble with this series just figuring out the sequence. This one is listed as 5 yet other reviewers claims it's Apparently I've read this series completely out of order but no worries. Th Other than the minor continuity issues, this was a really good story. They've all been enjoyable to a degree either way. Jan 11, Megan rated it it was amazing.

Christine Warren

Freaking loved this book! The books in this series keep getting better and better. It was an insta-love type story so if you aren't into that then you won't like it. But if done right, I don't mind the insta-love story lines and I think this one was defiantly done right. I think what makes it work in this book is Corinne's attitude toward Luc.

She doesn't gush all over him. That's when the insta love drives me nuts. But the story was good. Hell of a twist. I honestly did not see that ending. Nov 02, Lisa Berk rated it really liked it. Another great read by Christine Warren! I treally enjoyed this book. The only thing that bothers me and keeps me from rating it a 5 is that it does not read as a series should. It is supposed to be the 12th book in the others series, but there are characters in the book who have found there mates in other books, but are now back to being single in this one. Makes the story a bit confusing that she doesn't thread the story chronologically.

Not Your Ordinary Faerie Tale

Other then that it was a great fun read. Has issues with the heroine in this one too. I've found when Warren tries to make a heroine appear strong- the character comes off more like a cranky B. But I liked the hero and the whole "who's trying to open the door to the other side" plot. Nov 20, Samantha rated it it was ok Shelves: Mar 11, Blow Pop rated it did not like it Shelves: That's the first thing I'm going to say about this. The next thing I'm going to say is that if I could give this a 1. It's not bad enough for a full 1 star but it's not decent enough for a full 2 star in my eyes.

But here's what DID work for me: Page 85 is where we get the first description of her personality. I've met people like that. One of them was an ex of mine and he was very abusive in multiple ways towards me. Partly because of him and other prior experiences with others like that I can't be friends with people like that. Later on, she's described as using the femme fatale routine. Now, some of her description from Corinne does sound like jealousy particularly the point where on page 87 Ava is offering drinks and she says in the last line before Corinne is showing jealous snark "Unless you'd prefer something hot?

Corinne snarked in her head". Now, while I realise that that is a fairly typical line "coffee, tea, or me" I even use it from time to time though mostly in jest it bothers me in this context. Because Corinne is pulling that nasty girl vs girl attitude that's beat into us by society to someone who is suppose to be one of her best friends.

I give her props for not saying it out loud but only in the she's hitting the bare standards for being a decent human being. And I don't think we should hold people being decent human beings up on pedestals. Both in literature and real life. Heck even in other forms of media we shouldn't. It should be the standard everyone should be hitting regardless.

Later on still on page 87 , Ava is described thusly actually shortly after the drink convo like the next sentence after: It annoys me to no end. Especially when the person thinks that their job or amount of money they have makes them better. The dubious consent bordering on non consent. Luc and Corinne are in a crowd and almost get hit afterwards, he picks her up and carries her to her apartment where he starts kissing her in the elevator without any indication from her she wants to be kissed mostly because his adrenaline is pumping and practically tries to have sex with her before they even hit her apartment.

He basically assumes that he's staying with her in her apartment before hand and they've literally just met. This is a tropey as hell and b so overplayed that I'm sick of it. It's to the point that basically all the female lead has to do is look at the male lead even in glancing and it's taken by the male lead as "please come ravish my body". The soul mates thing. I will never be able to properly explain my disdain for it. Call it soul mates. Call it heart mates. It doesn't ever work for me. But soul mates who get absolutely no choice in the matter never works for me. This is where Kenyon's were-hunters get slight points in.

Because they have a choice. Yes, fate deems they should be together but doesn't rob them completely of choice I'm not a fan of negative consequences of said choice but the choice is there. Whereas this book and many others that do the soul mates or variations of them don't get choice. One kiss, touch, time sleeping together and they have no choice in the matter.

They can't be apart.

Even if the characters don't like each other. Now, I do know and have even experienced that people can start out hating each other and then go to falling for each other. And I've seen it done decently. Though that's not the case here. The case for this book is they've just met, he kisses her once, and instantly knows they're heart mates because she sees through his glamour. He doesn't tell her this happens. He doesn't explain it until almost before the last conflict in the book.
