As highly educated as they are, their "book-side" manner is friendly, engaging and in spite of being such a complex topic, pretty understandable. Dystonia is such a nightmarish disability that one book can not alone help someone suffering with it. Dystonia" goes into more detail than this book and is an excellent detailed and "must have" resource for anyone with dystonia, but this book is easy to whip through to get a quick introduction for understanding dystonia and ways to start healing. This book serves as a helpful resource for people living with Dystonia.

Because Dystonia is not well known, it's important to have a book that has consolidated, updated information. I would recommend that everyone who either suffers from Dystonia or family members who live with someone with Dystonia read this book as a basic guide. One person found this helpful. I have been researching this topic for several months.

I thought this guide, considering the reviews, would contain some material not found elsewhere, but I was wrong. I found one paragraph on medications which was new information for me. There is minimal coverage of paroxysmal and torsional dystonia. The misdiagnoses of fibromyalgia and piriformis syndrome are not even mentioned.

The topic of pain is quite short-shrifted. The information in this book is easily found for free on the websites of various agencies and foundations, and sometimes in much more detail. For instance, the book has no similar page to the "effect on muscles and bone" on the DMRF site. The exercises, which may consume a third of the book, are all for the cervical regions. All in all, a waste of time and money. Still scared but have ho.

This book is no longer new, but it stills pulls together much of the existing research in a cogent manner for a lay readership.
