No more excuses for us. The negative is the cover of the book. It definitely does not make sense to me on why she would have a sexy picture of herself on the front cover. The front cover does not speak for the book at all. I had no preconceived notions when begrinning this work.

I previously read the book by Joyce Swann covering her 25 years homeschooling and enjoyed reading as well as the information shared. I look forward to employing several of the concept used and am grateful to all those who went before us and prepared the way.

Swann developed during her tenure? This is one of the first homeschooling books I read when I started homeschooling many years ago. Bought it again for. Certainly worth a buck. I wouldn't say it is particularly helpful, but it is interesting to see how homeschooling worked for one family. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. No regrets is a book that will touch you to the core as you, page by page, read accounts of how a devoted mother ventured into the homeschooling arena with no experience or guidance.

It was her vision, determination, and passion to provide the best education possible for her children that, despite the naysayers and obstacles, proved that clinging to God would enable her to do what many would deem as impossible. Alexandra Swann, author, oldest child of 10 in the family and first to complete her Master's degree from Cal State at age 16, shares with us in detail her homeschooling adventure.

The final product of her mother succeeding in having all 10 children obtain Masters degrees is easier said than done. You will be intrigued at the sacrifice, the multi-tasking required, in addition to the chores needing to be done prior to school while mother saw to it that from the day Alexandra was born that she would read to her and the other children 4 chapters from the Old Testaments and 2 from the New Testament. In all, and to her credit, her mother taught all grades from 1st- Masters degree and as many as 54 subjects simultaneously.

There is so much to gleam from this book regarding principles of a disciplined life, an orderly home, and a true love that abounded in the family of twelve. The adversities will at first unsettle you, yet the victory won through the indomitable will is a breathtaking glance that there is strength in numbers and that a unified core, through their faith in God, can beat the odds and prove a strong testimony to those on the sidelines observing Let this book, like it had for myself, sweep you away as you cheer for the family around each curve in the road.

Truly it will warm your heart and inspire you to realize that dreams can be accomplished especially when God is in the very center of birthing it. Joyce Swann obviously did a fantastic job homeschooling her 10 children. I found it interesting to compare what she accomplished with what the public system with which I am familiar, does not. Joyce Swann proves that the public system could do much better with some discipline.

Even though I found a surprising number of editorial blunders in this book, I still have to give it a five star review. This story is a wonderful testament to what we, as Americans, are, or should be, all about. The whole Swann family and their values, dedication and perserverance are truly awe-inspiring.

Lists with This Book. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Obviously as a home educating parent it is very nice to read a 'success story', particularly one written from the child's perspective. However, I would not want to give this book to anyone to inform them about home education.

It reinforces a lot of stereotypes - you could almost have a check list; religious, hot housing, socially isolated, school at the dining table, correspondence schools, they are all there. The book is also not particularly well written, comes across as a self indulgent ramble Obviously as a home educating parent it is very nice to read a 'success story', particularly one written from the child's perspective. The book is also not particularly well written, comes across as a self indulgent ramble with little recognition of any negatives of home ed.

There is much too much irrelevant details about the courses she studied that are quite frankly boring. As a homeschooling mother I actually ended up disliking the mother for being too perfect. I'll stick to warts and all blogs, full of other families with wilful, uncooperative children and house's that are slightly chaotic at best. This was very interesting. A memoir similar to Cheaper by the Dozen, it has some of the same characteristics.

Both families were full of over-achievers.
