Clay narrates the audio book. It really brings to life his words in a way that the book does not. Both the sadness and the humor in the book are accentuated by his narration of his story. I wish I knew what was Clay's intention by writing this book as it would make a difference in my feeling whether or not he was successful in accomplishing his goal.
Clay is a phenomenon simply in the fact that he has captured so many people's curiosity, hearts, and undying loyalty. That fact alone makes a statement about Clay. I bought the book strictly out of curiosity on a number of levels: I am still unsure of the motivation for writing the book; I found it a good read and written in an informative, unassuming and entertaining manner and it did indeed keep my interest.

The most impressive aspect of this book is Clay's candid honesty. I did feel the book gave insight into who Clay Aiken really is and throughout the book I saw traits of a sensitive, fragile little boy combined with traits of a mature and grounded young man--a person determined to remain who he has been, which reflects a rather sheltered existence until his connection with American Idol.
His newly found lifestyle will surely put this determination to the test, which may not be a bad thing. I believe Clay has SO much to offer. As to those who ridicule Clay for writing this book, asking what a 26 year-old can possibly contribute through a a memoir of his life? I believe every single person has a story to tell. Clay has reached celebrity status and has as much right to tell of his experiences as anyone else. The fact that his book has reached 4 of the NY Times Best Sellers list seems to attest to the fact that people wish to hear what he has to say.
